Have you tried rebooting into Safe Mode and logging in as 'Administrator' with a blank password?

    http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Download ISO from this site, burn it, boot from it and follow the instructions. It will clear the password for the user you specify. It has worked well for me in the past.

    Or

You will need to download and burn a live boot disk of Ophcrack. Watched a video of it there and seems pretty decent! (Easy too).

    This.

Much easier than downloading/burning live cd's...

+1, I had success with it today in fact. I burnt the iso for my mom on a remote computer using teamviewer and it was simple enough to talk her through booting the offending computer from disk and guiding her through the reset.

Its much more fun send a guy who know little about PC's off to:
    1. Download an ISO.
    2. Burn ISO to CD (assuming he has spare PC to do this with)
    3. Figure out how to boot ISO.
    4. Figure out how to use said ISO to do what he wants to do.

All without asking the person where this old PC came from. It may be a "work" PC and the issue could be with a domain logon, in which case no manner of opcrack will help the user reset their own domain account password......which would then require that the user understand they need to reset the local admin password, which would in turn lead to mass confusion but eventually the realisation that opcrack would have worked.

Try the safe mode thing first, that doesnt work then get back here.

Or else press CTRL+ALT+DELETE twice at the log on screen...

IF your admin account has no password, then your sorted! Security bypassed!! ;)

Yeah... was wondering why people were suggesting safe mode. Seems an extra step just to try a username/password.

God forbid the man would get his problem solved and learn some useful knowledge in the process! the best way to learn about computers is to tackle problems, even if the bootdisk didn't work for him he would then know the difference between domain (unlikely to be his problem IMO) and local user accounts, as well as all the other aforementioned steps. how is that a bad thing?

Not necessarily a bad thing. But extremely frustrating for the OP if he cant get sorted after all of that or runs into problems, which could make matters worse.

There's no need to over complicate potential solutions to problems. That being said, Safe Mode was even over complicating things.
