Christmas flight dilemna...

    Right,

I have 2 x return flights booked for tomorrow evening to Edinburgh from Dublin, coming back 29th Dec.

However, due to the cancellations/airport chaos (Dub/Edi cancelled yesterday and today) we have booked the ferry and will drive - Roads in Scotland are all clear, they actually use salt on them over there...

Given the flight cancellations, I don't want to see someone stuck in the wrong place for Christmas, and would happily give these flights up for a refund. We have checked in, but I know I would get zilch if I called Ryanair, no doubt given the cancellations seats will be needed tomorrow....

    Any advice gratefully received....:)

Oh, don't worry. Ryanair won't let the seats go empty. They'll just give them to someone on the standby list, or, in the unlikely event that the standby list is empty, offer them for sale at the desk when you don't check in 20 minutes ahead of time. They'll keep your money, though.

It certainly won't hurt to call and ask if you can cancel, but I won't expect much.

    NTM

I think it unlikely that anyone will be standing by at that time on a christmas eve. Obviously Ryanair could benefit by knowing you are not travelling and so could two potential passengers.
I think it is not easy , a phone call ,even if you got through might not suffice.

    Its a good idea though.

In the same situation - original flights were cancelled earlier in the week, and booked again for tonight, but in the mean time - decided to get the ferry - could not find a way to cancel flights! I would hate to think that someone else is stranded! Are there standby lists anymore? Arent you told to leave the airport if you dont have a confirmed booking?

I would be so so angry if any of those flight from europe/england were arriving in Dublin with empty seats on them - when so many other people are still stranded! Would like to hear from someone who arrived recently if there were empty seats on their plane!
