Patrick Head and Rory Byrne are putting forward the following changes to the cars for the 2013.

    1. Dramatic reduction in wing sizes. Possible reduction to one element, front and back.

    2. Reintroduction of two limited sized venturi tunnels under each sidepod to reclaim some of the downforce lost on the reduced wing sizes. (Not mentioned but rear diffuser would likely go)

    3. Aim for the new cars to not be more than 5 seconds slower than 2012 cars.

    4. Elongated sidepods towards the front of the car.

    5. Banning high noses due to KERS equipment being place infront of the driver to recover engery from front wheels (high nose would bring with it a high CoG with KERS equip placed in the nose.

    6. Due to lower amounts of downforce, drivers will on average be on full throttle for only 50% of the lap as opposed to 70% at the moment.

I have no problem with any of the above. Cars today have to little power and too much grip. Makes them too easy to drive.

The return of limited ground effects is also a welcome return. Unlike front wings which suffer terribly when running in the turbulence of another car's wake, the fall off in downforce isn't near as much when a car is developing downforce via ground effect. Hopefully a benefit to the racing will be seen if these suggestions are adopted.
