    Hey,
I'm on dessert duty this christmas and have been requested to make black forest gateau,I was planning on using the Odlums recipe. Has anyone tried this recipe?? Also is Kirsch and cherrie liquor the same thing?

Haven't tried the recipe - but Kirsch is a clear spirit, not a lot like cherry brandy, really. It's not that difficult to find - so good luck!

    this is my recipe http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=67162688&postcount=3
I've only ever used kirsch so i'm not sure about the cherry liquor..but wiki says 'Unlike cherry liqueurs and so-called “cherry brandies”, Kirschwasser is not sweet'

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirsch

I bough some jars of cherries in kirsch in JC's in Swords, so keep an eye out for them in supermarkets - haven't used them yet - hopefully they are good plus saves buying the bottle!

Yes, kirsch is a clear schnaps made from cherries, not like cherry liqueur at all!
