Had a similar situation and changed battery , no prob since. Go to a motor factors , youll find them in the phonebook, tell them the make of vehicle and they will give you the right battery at a decent price. Mine cost 70 but well worth it , no prob since. And its the wifes car , so important that she starts :D

I have the same problem, but it does usually start. This time though I had to leave the car for 24 hours or more in the -11 degrees. it won't start now but the starter is turning over. Do you still think it's the battery?

I was thinkin it just needs to be warmed up, lash a few hot coals under that bad boy or throw an electric blankey under the bonnet....would that help? It's old school but it can't blow up the car can it!?!

It's probably a combination of needing glow plugs and battery. Best to change the battery anyway as you'll be left stuck someday.

Is there anything you can do to overcome the affects of the severe cold weather on diesel engines. My brothers Nissan Xtrail is sluggish at the moment due to the cold weather.
I've read about putting a small amount of petrol into the tank to stop the diesel from waxing, but have also read that diesel nowadays has anto waxing in it.

The only way 2 beat the extreme cold effecting diesels is to fit

a diesel heater on the diesel line, done in Northern counties, nearer the

Artic circle, might be worth thinking about fitting in Ireland now i guess!
