Blackburn to be relegated

Massive price I think at 9/1.

    - People completely under-estimate the importance and just how good at grinding out results Big Sam was. He was integral in keeping Blackburn up the season before last and this year he had them 10th in the table before he was sacked. I reckon it’ll be a massive loss to the club.
    - His replacement Kevin Keen has been appointed on what basis? Being Chris Coleman’s assistant? Even Big Sam expressed disbelief at the appointment, which says wonders really.
    - There appears to be serious disharmony among the players now, especially with Chris Samba, the captain, saying he wants to leave in the wake of the sacking. I wouldn’t be surprised if more followed suit.
    - Which, considering Blackburn’s squad would really devoid them of much talent. When you look at their squad there are very few standout players. Take Dunn, Pederson, Robinson, Samba and perhaps N’Zonzi out of the team and what are you left with?
    - Phil Jones, their shining light, is now out for the next six months if not longer. He’s a superb player and a massive loss to a team which badly needed this kind of injection of youth.
    - Sam had a reputation for getting the best out of average enough players. He had Blackburn playing to their full potential. It remains to be seen if Keen can do the same. If their draw against West Ham is anything to go by, it’s not looking great for them.
    - They tend to rely on their home form to get them through the season, which is just as well as their remaining away fixtures are very tough. That’s not to say their home fixtures are much easier either...

    - They’re still only six points away from the relegation zone. And when you look at their rivals to go done it paints a bleak enough picture.
    - Everton, Stoke and Villa are all below them and should easily stay up. Fulham should be alright also. Birmingham are a danger, as are Wigan. West Ham look set to change their manager and rumour has it Big Sam could be the new man. Wolves have been playing decent football and should begin to get some points under their belt.

All in all, I think 9/1 is a massive price for them to be relegated and I’m prepared to put 100 on them anyway.

He's handed in a transfer request citing the sacking of Allerdyce as the reason! Given recent events (basically everything you have outlined) then at 9/1 they do look pretty good. They're fixture list isn't the toughest tbf but the players obviously arent happy and like you said many of the teams below them will begin to climb the table. On the flipside of that however you would expect west brom and blackpool to start sliding down the table. West ham will definitely go down (imo) so that leaves 2 spots. I reckon those 2 spots will be a battle between wigan, brum, west brom, blackpool and wolves (i think wolves will be fine). If blackburn keep doing what theyre doing they'll be fine but without big sam i think they might start to slide myself, at 9/1 its probably worth a pop it really depends on how they adapt to the changes at the club. Not worth a huge amount imo but it is probably worth a few bob of anyones money

Some very good points jive but as a West Ham fan, I hope you're wrong about that one.. January will tell a lot about the club and it's intentions so hopefully we'll have a clearer picture then.

yeah west hams season hinges on january imo. if they have a good january they might just survive but if they have a bad month then they can kiss premier league football goodbye! i think grant was good at chelsea but he seems to be doing crap at lesser clubs (that being said there wasnt much he could do about pompey). There's only so much scott parker can do :P If cole starts bangin in a few they might be ok but theyve a lot of ground to make up. There are definitely weaker teams in the league than west ham

If you back them at 9/1 to be relegated now there will definitely be a laying opportunity around April time to lock in profit anyways.

Supposedly looked a shambles today, losing 2-0 at home to Stoke. With West Ham, Wigan and Stoke all winning below them, decent day for this particular bet. Long may it continue..

Strongly agree here. Assistant managers just can't cut it in the PL.

Ricky Sbragia, Paul Hart, and more so, Sammy Lee and Chris Hutchings in recent years. Its nonsense.

I intend to take full advantage, nice spot and write up

Nice bet fkiely , i can definitely see you getting a run for your money. If they lose Samba in January they are gonna struggle a lot more than they are currently.

Win today has them back up to 7.0 so far on Betfair.

Was a good win for them to be fair, wasn't really expecting that.

It was indeed, though to be fair West Brom have hit a bit of a slump. I wouldn't be surprise if this (7.0) is the best price we'll see on offer for Blackburn to be relegated going forward.

    Their next games are:

    Sunderland (A)
    Liverpool (H)
    Chelsea (A)
    West Brom (H)
    Tottenham (H)

They may well be in down towards the bottom by the beginning of Feb.

Definitely worth a punt on Blackburn going down.
    What about Newcastle also?
Backed them 2 years ago at 20/1 to be relegated at start of season.

Think the bookies have realised the situation, Blackburn to be relegated now 7/2 on Paddy Powers.

Big drop in the space of a couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see if they actually sign anybody in the window.

There's a decent chance they could be dragged into the relegation fight now. They're only 4 points ahead of the drop zone and have been playing quite poorly. Tough enough run in as well. Unlikely but there's still a chance.

    Yeah, still quite unlikely.

Dean has done a cracking job to be honest. Took 6 points of west Brom over the xmas. Blackburn are the worst footballing side in the prem for me, but the best at set-pieces

Into 2/1 now after only managing a draw at home against Blackpool at the weekend. They're only a point off the relegation zone now and are well involved in the fight. The next game will tell a lot I feel.

You can be sure they'll get a result against us at the Emirates!

Hopefully not but I acutally mean their next home game.

    Their remaining fixture:

    Arsenal v Blackburn

    Blackburn v Birmingham

    Everton v Blackburn

    Blackburn v Man City

    Blackburn v Bolton

    West Ham v Blackburn

    Blackburn v Man Utd

    Wolverhampton v Blackburn

How on earth did I not see this thread before,I've fancied them to go down for ages. 9/1 would have been a gift.

    Too good to go down.

    So were Leeds!

How do you reckon this ?:)
    Too good to go down.

No team in the bottom 10 is safe, I don't think any team is "too good to go down" in this half of the table

    Too good to go down.

my ballix, if they had big samuel they would have stayed up, the new indian owners should have stuck with call centres or whatever they do there and not meddle with an EPL team traditionally finishing in the middle or lower ends of the table.

    Too good to go down.

Like Leeds were, like West Ham were, like Newcastle were... And beside that, all those aforementioned clubs were much much better than the current Blackburn lot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

No such thing as being 'too good to go down'. The way people say that you'd swear that if they ended up in the relegation zone at the end of the season that there'd be some sort of hearing where they'd be kept up by some sort of hierarchy on the basis that they have a better team or history than another team who aren't in the relegation zone.

    This gets even better...

Blackburn have confirmed the signing of Myles Anderson from Aberdeen in the summer. Not heard of him? Most people haven't.

Myles Anderson is the son of football agent Jerome Anderson. Not heard of him? Most people haven't.

Jerome Anderson is the man responsible for the Venky takeover of Blackburn.

Jerome Anderson is said to have a massive control over the way Blackburn is been run.

Jerome Anderson is said to have been responsible for the sacking of Sam Allardyce as Big Sam wasn't prepared to sign players attached to Jerome Anderson's company.

Jerome Anderson was given responsibility for finding Big Sam's replacement.

Have a wild, stab in the dark, guess who is also a client of Jerome Anderson...

    Yup, Steve Keen...

Who coincidentally confimed the signing of Jerome Anderson's son today. A player who has struggled everywhere he has been and who Aberdeen feel isn't good enough to warrant a new contract.

Something is certainly rotten in the state of Lancashire.

Into 13/8 now with five games left. Man City, Bolton and Man United at home, West Ham and Wolves away. Will be tight but still in with a shout.
