which is better for fringe areas like leopardstown/sandyford south dublin for picking up decent signal from wales.
the triax 100 or the JBX21WB from blake uk.
i'm using a maplin 100 element aerial , have being told on form that it crap.
picking up very stable channels 41 and 44[i think coming from arfon].
picked up a new humax hd T2 freeview box yesterday.
thought i would pick up channel 47 for hd channels, receiver saw no signal.
web site show same output as channels 41 and 42. any reason why i may not be picking them up.
    thanks timetunnel

A Dish is best. Gets All the UK channels great in Limerick or leopardstown. Much neater and cheaper than a big pole and big aerial.

Any problems receiving Saorview ? I assume the EPG was OK ?

are you sure Arfon's definitely transmitting HD channels ?

you need a bigger pole and better aerial.

A pair of SR18 or similar.

It's never going to be reliable with that Maplin Aerial. Which is actually 25 elements and no more gain than an 18 to 21 element.

    watty
you still have not read my post correctly,
i know i need a better aerial than the maplin one
i said that in my post.
the question was which aerial is better of the two

Take the advise or not, but try not to be a pedant towards someone that is taking the time to offer you quality advice for free.

Might make you look like a prick.

Just buy both & try them out yourself if you want to know so badly.

    happy harry
i'm not making myself out to be a *****.
i was just explaining that both responces were nothing to do with the question i had put to the form,
i have taken a lot of advice watty has given on this form and am very thankful.
i would hope that watty knows i was not trying to be rude.
as that is not in my nature.
but i do take offence to yourself and tom slick trying to twist things around and make something out of nothing.
in fairness to yourself you may have only being trying to give me advice,
as you may have picked up what i was saying to watty in the wrong context as i may have with your thread.
but its quite clear tom slick is only trying to stir up trouble.
if he does not want to give advice, he should not answer any thread.
one of the adminstrators should make contact with him.
anyway have a good christmas .
because we should not be doing threads like this, we should be helping each other.
and it takes me to long to type this

I know you are not being rude. I don't mean to sound rude either.

Sometimes I feel it's more useful to answer a different question. Or give a sideways answer. It's not much effort to ignore my posts when they are not usefull.

I've done a lot of research of getting BBC on east coast even though I live now in Limerick. A pair of Blake SR18 of correct group worked better than biggest Unix/Triax or Kathrien aerials. Also much cheaper and more robust. I even used Polytron helical filters for each channel. I used grouped pre-amp on mast too.
But a dish works better, cheaper and is more robust. A single dish can feed 1 to several thousand tuners.

I thought anyone going to that much trouble to receive terrestrial tv would regard themselves as a hobbyist and would be open to the suggestion I made.

Just because it's not the advice you want to hear doesn't make it any less valid, you could simply ignore it. This is an open internet forum, not your private helpline. Other people read these threads looking for information too, it's not all about one person demanding answers to one particular question.

As long as people abide by forum rules & etiquette they can post whatever they want. If other members don't like it, it's the forum in general they have a problem with & should say so.

tom i'm only home. have had a great night.
grow up. help people out. don't talk crap ,
we all say things we should not and you need to stop. your digging a hole with every thing you say.
have a happy christmas and move on, you picked up what watty and i were saying
    the wrong way.
    don't let your self down.
you should be giving all info you have for your area. if you have aerial on the south side. help
watty's on the west coast does the best he can, you should try the same,
your on the south side[east coast] .do you have a clue about aerials i would say no.
stay away from threads if you have no interest in helping,
