2005 Mondeo Flashing Glow Plug

Have a 2005 2.0 LX 115PS and today on the way home the glow plugs started flashing while on the motorway , pulled off at next exit (about 3 miles) and just then the car cut out.

Started it again and all seemed well. Managed to get home without any other issues, just another couple of miles.

Now knowing nothing about cars I sent the wife out to get a pair of jump leads for the morning.

While she was out I started to Google.

When I Google mondeos and flashing glow plugs , all different results appear ranging from repairing cam sensors, to fuel systems , and injectors, prices seem to range from €20 to €2500 !!!!! And a lot of it seems to be guess work by ford dealers.

I then saw this thread, http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056107128 , where an accord was had a similar problem but seemed to be due to cold weather. The car was sitting in about -10 for most of day and hadn’t warmed up by the time this happened – about 45 mins.

What are the chances that it could be the diesel waxing/jellying up?

Car is serviced in main dealer as per manual.

    Cheers.

The glow plug light flashing just means the ECU has logged a fault. It could be any one of dozens of things. The only way to be sure is to get diagnostics done.

    +1

don't sh1t yerself yet. Google any car and you'll get a myriad of results. And if a diog is ran by a ford technician, there will be little guess work.

    cheers guys,

most of the results suggest take it to a "diesel expert" rather than a ford garage for the diagnostics , do these exist and anybody know one located around limerick ?

I'd take it to a ford delaer tbh, they'll be very experienced with tdci units and have all the knowledge.

Had that trouble on a tdci Focus on and off for about a year. Spoke to mechanic at Ford garage during service and he said that as long as it didn't stay on continuosly it was not a big problem and to continue driving . I did and it didn't cause any hassle. Thats my experience and hope it helps :D

Shiels of Ennis have one of the 10 Ford Master Technicians around the country. Ford dealers generally aren't too expensive, but check the hourly labour rate first.

Might be a bit higher than a good indy, but might take less time to diagnose the issue.

    Well the update is is.....

Glow plugs started flashing again this morning about 500 yards from Ford dealer.

Decided to bite the bullet and went in and asked them to diagnose it. Luckily they were able to do it straight away (first customer of the day) and it came back with a problem in fuel system. They recommeded changing the fuel filter.

Seems to have done the job alright.

Phewy thanks god it wasnt injectors or anything else too expensive.

    Thanks a lot guys.
