Just wondering what is most peoples choice of ball and why? Have say not that fussy myself.. Like the Nike, Srixon, Pro V and have say like the Callaway a lot. Play with either ball... Which ever comes out of the pocket first to be honest...

Prov's would be great if they didn't cut up so easily. I see virtually no difference in performance with the Taylormade Pentas so that's what I use now.

Srixon AD333 all the way, proVs are just too expensive for my wayward driver

TM Penta for me, first ball to match up to the ProV IMO. Just like the look of the ball aswell, logo etc, especially while putting.

I always used Pro v and when Penta came out I bought them, used them in probably 20 or so rounds. Same feel off them both cut up the same in my opinion but for me the pro v carries further. I have put it to the test just hitting them off one tee box etc and as I say for me pro v defo travels better

Are the pentas much like the pro v?

Because as you said they are quite expensive and if another ball was very similiar I would definetley look at changing!

sorry yeah I reckon they both cut up equally in my opinion, thats soft balls for you they all cut badly, as for the distance its not huge but enough to put me off my clubbing, maybe 10-15 yrds max but was catching me out in my irons. Im sure somebody will come on and arguw and show me stats to prove otherwise but its what I found.

I play with a mate and we are always within the same level when it comes to drives etc, we both use pro v's, when I changed to the penta I was all of a sudden behind a little and hitting it like normal. Thats what grabbed my attention to it. I was also hitting say my 8 iron at my usual distance and coming up short of target !! so i have dropped back a club when using the penta's. That said I have gone back to the pro v now but dont have any issue with either ball other than the obvious, price, cutting etc

Yeah unusual one to be fair, maybe its just my terrible swing and horrible technique

I've used Pro Vs for many years & loved them. Recently, Bridgestone had a stand / computer / video at our club & needless to say, they recommended on of their own balls, saying that my swing speed (ave. 95mph) was too slow for the Pro V.

I was skeptical to say the least. He gave me a 2 ball sample pack which I threw in my bag & forgot about.

A few weeks later, I tried one out. I couldn't believe the performance of the ball. I immediately bought a dozen & gave a couple to my regular playing partners to see if I had just had "one of those days". Now, they all use the Bridgestone ball. (Maybe I should have kept it a secret??)

The point I'm making is that unless your average swing speed is greater than 100 mph, there's probably a better ball for you out there other than the Pro V. I'm open to correction but that's what I've read.

btw, I'm not working for Bridgestone which is why I haven't given the model of my new favourite golf ball. :D

I used the Pro V1x for a long time, but switched to the Srixon AD333 last year.

Initially, I just went to it as a cheaper alternative for the winter, when it's all placing and pretty uncompetitive. I get the AD333s for about 16 quid on golfstoreeurope.com. Anyway, turns out the Srixon suits me a whole lot better.

My short irons and wedges have always spun too much, very tough on Irelands mostly soft greens. Srixon helped with that obviously, but more to my surprise, in windy conditions, I found it a fair bit easier to control drives and iron shots, just becase the ball wasn't spinning as much. It's also harder, so goes further too.

Around the greens, it's not as good as the PV1, but It's not crap either. I took this as a manageable negative. Besides, I play mostly simple short game shots, with mid lofts like a PW, so I can live without something I can fire in and check up. Though when I need to, the Vokey SM wedges can do that.

The biggest reason though, is that while all the 'tests' and machines show a brand new Titleist is better than a brand new Srixon, what they don't show is the performance after you've hit two or three wedges/bunker shots with each. The state the PV1 cover can get into after a handful of holes is crazy. I can't believe the ball can perform the same, and Im not about to replace them every few holes. The AD333 just scuffs slightly, as opposed to cutting, and does so far less frequently. And even if you do need to change, it's only a flippin euro or so for one!

I'm sure I'll use a Titleist in say, the Lord Mayors on a rock hard, short Clontarf course in August, but for 99% of my golf, the Srixon suits me perfectly.
