    Hi all,

I'm driving from dublin to ballybofey on thursday morning/afternoon. What would be the best route to take here considering the conditions at the moment. I've never went the M3 before. What exit would you take on this route for getting to strabane etc?

I normally just go through slane but thinking of avoiding this due to the weather. Hopefully all the main roads will be gritted.

Personally I'd try the M1/N1/A1/M1 to Belfast and head west with as much motorway as possibly from there.

I cant say that I would prefer the Northern route.

I have gone to Donegal from the N4 and also from Belfast and I much prefer the N4 route.

If you do go the Northern way ignore the satnav if you have one and go into Lifford/Strabane from Belfast and dont cut off the main road before them. That road nearly killed me and my car, not speed, just general road conditions and I am sure with the snow it will be horrible. Also there are a lot of road works going on after the M1 motorway for a fair few miles. I can imagine that would be awful in this weather.

My vote is Dublin, M4, Longford, Sligo, Bundoran Bybass, Donegal even with these conditions.

I say M4 because I live near it. I dont know what the M3 does to the situation.

Thanks guys, i might just get the bus to avoid the stress of it all as i have rear wheel drive too. Not worth the risk even though i'm managing down here ok.

Oh rear wheel drive forget it in those conditions :D. Bus is probably your best option. It is very stressful driving in these conditions.
