You're as well off getting one direct from Apple. Only around €20 more, and it won't be locked to a network.
Dunno if it'll arrive by Christmas though.

A friend of mine rang apple about delivery dates yesterday, they said it would be delivered by 27th because of the weather. Weather is only getting worse tho so will probably be longer!

but when did he make the order? I don't mind having to wait a few days extra etc...

He didn't actually make an order, but if he had of ordered it yesterday he would have gotten it by the 27th apparently.

I am also looking at buying an iphone and don't really want to be tied to a particular network so am looking at buying from Apple.

Which network offers the best PAYG option ?

Personally I find vodafone the best I'm on the 360 plan and for €20 a month I get free calls n text and 100 megs of Internet for 39c per day

    +1
This is the best option available at the moment. Plenty of data with the 100mb per day.

Sorry to hijack the thread but If I were to buy an iPhone 4 from Vodafone can I still buy apple care or do I get an alternative type of insurance?

    Thanks,

AppleCare is an extended warranty (2 years extra), not insurance. You can buy it at any time during your standard (1 year) warranty, and it doesn't matter if you bought your phone from Vodafone, but it only covers standard warranty repairs - not accidental breakage or loss or theft. So if you drop your phone and the screen smashes, AppleCare doesn't cover it.

You can also get insurance from Vodafone for whatever they charge per month. This covers theft, loss and accidental damage, but I'm not sure about the full terms and conditions, so I don't know if there's an excess or anything.

Personally, I'm not a fan of extended warranties or specific product insurance, but plenty of people appreciate them for the peace of mind. Just research the terms and conditions carefully first to be sure you're getting the cover you expect.

If you have house insurance, check with your provider to see if your iPhone is covered in any way. You may already have some cover under certain circumstances which might be enough for you.

    Thanks for the response,

I'm going to give the house insurance a ring and see if they will cover it! But basically if I am to buy insurance would it be pointless in getting insured with vodafone and buying AppleCare?
