Driving from Dublin to Stockholm

I want to drive from Dublin to Stockholm in the next few months to bring my belongings over. In terms of shortest travel time what's the best way to get there in your view? I just found out that the Newcastle to Gothenburg boat doesn't run anymore which is a big blow to the route i was planning on doing. Now i'm thinking going to Calais and driving to Copenhagen and up through Sweden. At a rough guess i think it'll take 48hours. Is that about right?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum. I looked around and couldn't find an appropriate one.

Its a long journey, more like 72hrs minimum via english channel. realistically will need 3 overnight stops, esp in winter. Aiming for 48h doing all the driving on your own is madness.

Gothenburg may have finished but there is still the Newcastle to Esbjorg dfds ferry which cuts out most of the drive if you want.

The cheapest route though is as you describe..

One day to get to dover, late night dover-dunkirk by norfolk line is the cheapest channel crossing. through belgium and holland to kiel is most of a day. long way through denmark avoiding ferries via kolding, store belt bridge, copenhagen and bridge to malmo takes a full day, might get to hasselholm and then the road becomes mostly an A-road for the last few hours accross sweden which will take another days driving.

If you're looking to avoid the long drive through central Europe there's fare information here on going via Harwich to Ebsjerg route here:

According to google maps it will take 2495km from dublin to Stockholm through england and france. 1day 4 hours.

P.s Any space in car, wouldn't mind another trip to Stockholm great city? :)

    Thanks.

Does anyone know if the Gothenburg crossing from Uk is a summer crossing such that it will open up again in a few months?

Sorry Travnett, i'm filling the car to the brim with lots and lots of stuff like guitar amps, extra clothes, books and whatnot.

My folks do the Dublin - Oslo trip every summer. The best way now is leave Dublin on an early ferry to Holyhead. Overnight near Hull, then ferry to Esbjerg. Overnight in Denmark and then you can get another Stena ferry from Grena to Vargberg and drive the rest to Stockholm.

Driving alone long distance on unfamiliar roads will be tough enough, let the ferries do all the hard work.

    Lycka till!

AFAIK, the UK to Sweden (or Norway) ferries are not on the cards for the foreseeable.
