Hi mick, I think you're better off researching what type of car you want and shopping around, rather than tying yourself into a particular dealer.

What's your budget? You should probably try and find some specific cars for sale near you, and post links to them up here and some people might be able to give you some advice on them.

As eoin said, you need to focus on the actual car rather than the dealer selling it. Be sure to run a full HPI check and to verify the service history by calling every dealer who stamped the book - buying a UK import, especially from a non-franchised dealer, is a dangerous business.

true i now know that from reading up on it , but i have rang a couple of dealers and most have either sold the cars or dont know what cars im talking about, i was thinking of importing myself but with weather and just the hassle of it i would rather keep my money at home

You'll find a lot of imports will have 'lost' their service histories at around the same time as they had their clocks wound back. If it were me i'd buy privately here - even if you're not an expert on cars, you can tell a lot from the owner. The main thing is to take your time - you'll know when you've found the right car.

thanks for the advice but i would rather buy from a dealer where you have some chance of a comeback where as buying privately i dont think you have a leg to stand on correct me if im wrong

OP, this might be worth taking a test drive in:

Back a few months ago when I was searching for my new car I noticed they still had that one for sale so if I had cash (no trade-in) and the car checks out, I would expect to pay alot less than that sticker price for it.

Are you restricted to Galway? We just bought a car and I travelled 170 km to get the car- worth it if it's the right car IMO.

There are bargains to be had privately, unfortunately done deal seems to be full of dealers posing as private sellers, and cars that seem too good to be true. We walked away from two such cars. But there are genuine sellers out there. Generally, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. And if something feels the least bit dodgy, I'd walk away.

    Hi Mick

I was in this garage when looking for a car for my girlfriend last year and they seem ok. The car she tested was a Focus and it was in really good condition, maybe a tad overpriced but as other said you should not focus too much on which dealer.

If you'r spending that sort of money it would be worth travelling around a bit as well in my opinion. Every time i've looked for cars there's always been much better deals around Dublin, but i'm sure there are good deals to be done around Galway as well if you look around. A friend of mine has the 2006 Tdi version of that Accord and really impressed with it by the way, nice car

I find this page good as it pulls in multiple different sites in the search results, it is not perfect but pretty good.
