orthognathic surgery limerick

I need some info...When i was in 5th yr i got braces that i waited for at no cost i was told that orthognathic surgery was an option for underdeveloped lower jaw at the time i agreed to go ahead with just the braces.Had to see the surgeon to get teeth out which he asked me was I informed about jaw surgery. He is the surgeon that provides it. I told him yes but Im overlooking it. Was happy with the outcome of the teeth for most part but i feel I should have done the surgery. Reason because I was looking info on internet and it can cause health issues..I have a borderline thyroid which i feel is due to this. I have had tinnitus twice a year for the last 4 years. Also I have difficulty playing sports before braces but I thought it was medical condition so i just stopped playing sports but i love to play wasn't easy.

I recently started playing soocer after my third training session i got sick i couldn't breath, my balance was off had headaches and a side stitch I get this every time I exert myself even walking up stairs I could collapse.Ive no energy. I was referred to college doc for bloods and a chest xray all of which are clear to end up with ease into training. I was wondering is the under developed jaw responsible for me not getting in enough oxygen. I look really pale after playing my brother even told me i looked blue in the face all from a simple short distance jog.

If i need to get this surgery could I get it done for free now? Ive a medical card. I know you need to get braces before the surgery could I get them for free for the purpose of surgery? How long would I have to wait?

If I opt to fund braces can I be referred by my provider to get this surgery done for free and quicker time frame. Im 21 now Please help.

You health problems are likely unrelated to a jaw size discrepancy I would consult a GP ASAP about these concerns.

Unfortunatly the HSE are not going to pay for braces or surgery under the medical card unless its for severe medical reasons, again you GP is best to see if this is the case.

I dont think your chances are great to be honest sorry.

i also doubt your health problems are related to your teeth and jaws.

there are some small links between sleep apnea and retraction of teeth to camouflage a lower jaw that is to far back.

    do you snore?

Vishal, I wasn't aware that orthodontic camouflage has been suggested as a possible trigger for OSA. Surely it would be more likely that the underlying mandibular retrognathia would be the causative factor? Any chance you could post a link to the paper(s) you refer to? Thanks

OP, I agree with the previous posters that the problems you describe are almost certainly not related to the jaw problem, even if sleep apnoea is present. Definitely go see your GP and get these checked out ASAP

it's more something that is hinted at than any real evidence.

actually just looked up angle and there seems to be evidence to the contrary

At the end of the day the HSE wont pay for a root canal for an adult yet alone a simple mandibular advancement appliance and heaven know not two courses of braces and cosmetic jaw surgery.
