What would your Fantasy Map be?

Having looked at the Blops DLC and another Snow Map. Have they no imagination?

So our question for today is, what is your fantasy map?

I will get the ball rolling, I would love the boat from Under Siege! Akimbo MP5s and throwing knives! And when you get a kill Steven Seagal's voice comes up with his most famous catchphrases!
    ''Im just a cook'' Etc!

Also, IW missed a MASSIVE opportunity . . . . . . A White House map ( Campaign one from MW2 would have more than sufficed ) would be amazing!

I have to say I'm really a fan of desert maps. So an Afghan style map, with some nice sniping spots and some medium range quarters would be nice.

Desert maps are nice, I would love to see some maps on Karst Landscapes - The Burren . . . . the wreckage of a downed Air Force One . . . . Im pulling good ideas out of my arse for maps yet they stick with weather and climatic themed maps! I cant understand it!

My favorite map ever is facing worlds in Unreal Tournement, I'd like to see something like that with nice sniping spots. Also 2Fort from TF2.

Making my own map I always thought it would be funny if the two teams at the start of a match spawn right beside each other but have unbreakable glass between them. So they can see each other but can't kill each other(I think there was a map like the in UT also). It would be set in a modern prison that would look something like undergroud in the first MGS for PS1.

I think there are a few factors to really great maps:

    - lots of soft cover, like the long grass of overgrown or pipeline
    - a well judged altitude gradient: crash and strike used the slope of the map to achieve varied sightlines for snipers, and mixed cover for the runners
    - broken architecture works better than complete structures, crossfire was a great example, almost every building had damage to its walls allowing for more ways to cross the map, ie not just doors and windows. Black ops doesn't want that though or the rc-xd would be useless, so every building needs stairs instead of a ladder, and no rubble. Cracked is totally without imagination and there was nothing convincing about how a structure could collapse the way it had. Ambush had perhaps the best examples of destroyed buildings.
    - underground. There needs to be tunnels in some maps so that air support doesn't unfairly restrict movement. Pipeline showed just how useful it was to go between three locations and flank.
    - learning from mw2 version of vacant, I'd like to see a map with narrow corridors but really low ceilings to restrict noob tube distance, perhaps with an upstairs and downstairs, holes in the floors - a combination of the glass from highrise, vacant's corridors and the building site from backlot, with ladders, stairs and an elevator as well as holes in the floor and stacked boxes to change floors. Might not work, but haven't really seen it in the other maps.

Dream maps are a toughie as they seem great in your head and fall apart once on paper. The majority of the large maps seem to descend into pointless shootouts in the exact same spots, think Array and the crane, jeep and caterpillar. Whether the spawn system needs revision to alleviate that I can't say. I honestly don't think there is any classic map that stands out head and shoulders (series wise) in Black OPs so I'll use examples from others in the series.

    Bloc (COD4)
I liked it despite campers and snipers as you could sneak into a building and pick off a load of players. Yes it was big in probably the wrong places, the pool area (and its opposite side) would have been great for big team battles with 5 points for domination had they made that possible. But for team deathmatch it needed more alternative routes into the opposing building just so campers couldn't stay comfortable. Also the huge open area was prime hunting for snipers, but if there was a fire/smoke/intermittant snow storm which blinded/hindered fields of view then it would have been a chance to get across there unseen.

    Crossfire(COD4)
Compare Crossfire and Havana (Black Ops) and Havana comes out very badly. It has a much larger footprint but somehow feels boring and bland. The street in havana is too straight whilst Crossfire has a much smaller footprint yet packs alot more in to a kinked layout. Havana could be better with more abandoned cars/roadblocks/cover but it just seems dull. Crossfire has plenty of hiding places but you always felt that you could get picked off from almost anywhere in the map.

    Pipeline(COD4)
I still remember my surprise as I found out there was an underground to this map. So many different and distinct areas in one map that never felt disjointed or chucked together. The close combat in the tunnels, the sniping in the grass, the shootouts between the factories, the fights over the factories, the ducking and diving into cover near the railcars as the snipers on the roof took shots at you. It really was a great map.

So in conclusion, shamelessly remake any COD4 map above and leave out snow.

id agree that spawn points play a major part in this but i dont thinkmoving the fixed spawn points is the solution . eventually players will learn the ins and outs of the spawn and run to get to a choke point first . then the shootout would commence . i thought a system of random spawning might be a little bit better . so teams would often spawn in different areas at the games start but more importantly wouldnt be facing each other directly

I love how the OP uses one factor of one of the 4 maps in the map pack and talks about lack of imagination

The checkpoint charlie map I have high hopes for along with the stadium. If done right they could be fantastic.

    Thanks for your input there . . . . :\
If you went on to read the rest of my post I pulled two maps out of my arse. Keep the smart arsed comments to yourself please.

There is already 2 maps that I can think of that are arctic themed . . . . 2 of 9 being essentially the same gets tedious. MW2 wasnt short of them either!

Famous landmarks would kick ass too! :D Imagine napalm strikes being called in around the statue of liberty? Or the Eiffel tower . . . or massive gunfights on the great wall! Or the Spire . . . . . . . . if your really scraping the barrel!

There are 3 snow maps on Black Ops. Summit, Grid and Array, and in no way are they similar other than the climate. In fact I think they are my 3 favourite maps in the game.

I do understand people not liking the colour scheme and such, that can get a little uninspiring, but for me its one of the last things I look for in a map, and the 3 in question all play differently.

If I could have one re-make map from an older COD it would probably be Backlot (cod 4), or that Tunisian map from COD 2.

yeah and the 2 (2 ffs!) snow maps you mention are 2 good maps so what's your problem? 1 out of 4 new maps is a snow map and yet you focus on that and it somehow means that Treyarch have a lack of imagination. Also the 2 already there are 2 completely different maps to each other so not sure why you'd say they are the same?

    Zing.

Totally agree. Great maps and I'm someone who in the past has moaned about snow maps in FPS games.

Vacant with more open space around the side of the buildings.

Oh wait, that's already been done on the PC. Vacant_2 :)

It just gets repetitive. They are great maps, Im not disagreeing at all! Array is one of the best I have ever played! I would just like to see a map thatrs a little more outlandish. If RC - XDs can get into it, why not some truly different maps?

Afghan/Derail from MW2...in fact I'd take any of the MW/MW2 maps over the BO maps..

Saying that I'd love Mashtur City or Karkland from Battlefield 2 :)

Complex from Goldeneye on the N64 or da Sq :D

A more vertical map would be pretty snazzy. Like an apartment complex or something with like 5 to 6 floors. Also a map like Wasteland from MW2. I know everyone kinda hated that map but it would be nice to see some sniper love in Bops in the form of a wide open map. Or like a Cruise ship thats been taken over by the commies! Or like a plane that has been taken over by the commies! Or like an oil rig thats been taken over by the commies. Or like a small one bedroom apartment thats been taken over by the commies.

Majority liked Wasteland from what I gathered. It was the chance to rake in a good score for most, except for me :/

A half destroyed American football stadium, huge sightlines for snipers out in the field and close quarters in the stands and concession areas.

I love the thought of a Colosseum type map. If it were based on say the one in Rome or Verona(which is smaller), both have a lot of areas inside and underground too with a lot of intense CQB. Imagine B flag in the middle of the map :pac:

Was Playing Assasins Creed earlier and the Colosseum came into my head! I would love a Map in the Middle of a bombed St. Paddys Day parade . . . . . . would look weird! :P
