I use a laptop instead of a desktop because I need to be able to bring it home and out of the office etc. However, I prefer to use a desktop pc because a) it's more comfortable and b) much bigger display c) I'd like to have more than one monitor.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a laptop where I can detach the screen and mount it like a monitor?

No, would be useful but why not get a usb keyboard, mouse and monitor so you can just hook it up at your docking station.

If its just really the monitor your after, you can hook up your laptop to your tv via a cable?

Just get yourself a VGA cable and an external monitor. Then you use a dual monitor display with monitor one being your laptop and monitor 2 being the external (or vice versa). It's very simple.

ASUS's ePad/eTablet - not what what exactly it's called - is like that. An iPad-type thing, running Android, with a keyboard and touchpad "dock". Essentially an Android slate and touchscreen netbook in one. Not out yet though. More info at CES me-thinks.
