Simple question really, does anyone know are they locked to Vodafone when purchased in Vodafone stores or are they sim-free

I bought one today, popped in my old O2 sim, and all was well.
This was even though the guy at the desk was being told by HQ that recent DHDs were locked.

Yeah I bought one today and will try my old meteor sim later. The guys in the shop I bought it said they thought it should take the old sim but the shop I originally enquired about were of the opinion it would be locked.

Well I hope the Meteor sim should work. If it does work could you tell me how to transfer the phone numbers from your old sim to the Desire memory?

Worked a charm, so it is unlocked. I just transferred all my contacts via bluetooth from the iphone

If they are all unlocked this really is a bargain -

A lot cheaper than any I've seen s/h on Adverts.

Yeah, that is a risk...you never know what is in the box. might be sim free, might be not!

Easy enough to unlock though, and certainly won't cost €48.

€40 cheaper than what i got it for. stinger but great bargain there

I'm happy enough anyway, using my old o2 sim and have tech/insurance recourse with Vodafone.

You know that they can check what SIM you are using and if you haven't been using the vodafone one it's not insured?

Where did you get that from?

From Vodafone Insurance terms and conditions.
I have made a claim recently and I hadn't being using the vodafone sim all the time. However it was just used enough to be covered.
The rep said I was lucky!

    Exclusions

This insurance does not cover the following:

    * Loss, theft or damage of the Insured Equipment where at the time of the loss, theft or damage, or for a period of 15 days immediately preceding the time of the loss, theft or damage, the Insured Equipment has not been used to send or receive a voice call, data call or SMS message on the Vodafone mobile telephone network and/or the registered SIM card is not in the Insured Equipment.
