Question for applying for job through FAS

    Hi there

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light. I want to apply for a job that is advertised on FAS, problem being that FAS states the job is available to apply for until mid-Jan but the job has the start date as early Jan. Am thinking I should get my application in ASAP... what's the story?

Too late now to ring the company, but any thoughts welcome.

    Thanks.

Check jobbank.fas.ie and see can you find the job there. Usually there'll be an email address that you forward your CV to down the bottom of the page, or a physical address.

    FAS BAHAHAHA JOKE

I applied for a job through them. I didn't know the employer at the time but coincidentally I had also applied for the job directly.

3 MONTHS later Fas called to say that although they thought my CV was interesting "they" went another way.

I KNEW they went another way because THEY HIRED ME!!! Obviously this guy was lying through his teeth and just found my CV lying around somewhere.

I lost all fate in Fas from that point. The jobs on their site are useless as well. I see employers putting up jobs and nearly taking 20% off the wage because "feckin Fas people".

I never did this. Always applied directly to the company. Found if I copied the job spiel into Google, I'd get the actual employer soon enough. Do think I may have gotten one job out of it. At the time, I found the jobbank had less spam, but now, now there is spam, and WPP jobs.

Not necessarily? The employer didn't recruit a FAS candidate (because he hired you on the basis of your more direct application) so he did go another way.

Tbh I'm not the hugest fan of FAS but I don't see they did anything terrible in your case - they may not have heard back from your employer at all and were trying to be nice, or the employer might have gotten back to say 'thanks but no thanks' and they were relaying it to you. No conspiracy :pac:

The FAS website is used by a lot of employers now because it is free, and saves them the cost of newspaper advertising. It also has a lot of opportunities for people who are unemployed, be they WPP or CE type positions, as well as mainstream employment. Like everything else, it is a tool to be used. Don't knock it just because it is FAS.

Jobs posted on the FAS website always have the companies contact details, so you apply to the company directly, I have never went through FAS to apply for a job for me, I use it like any of the online recruiters and actually, FAS tend to have better jobs advertised as they are free for employers to use.
