Thinking about a new phone and looking for something similar to iphone without the price tag. HTC Desire has been recommended. Any comments? Also which is better Desire or Wildfire? What apps are available for them and what happens ina years time, will these kind of phones just be replaced by upgraded ones and become obsolete?

There is plenty to read about apps and the likes both on the web in general and on this forum. But suffice to say there are enough apps to keep anyone entertained.

The desire is better than the wildfire. There is also a Desire HD and Desire Z which are both upgraded versions of the Desire.

As for upgrades, if you get an iphone now it will be replaced with a new version every year. Its the same with all technology, its obsolete as soon as you buy it. But smart phones are here for a long time before they get replaced. Also when new versions of the Operating System becomes available you will be able to update this on your phone.
