I have the HTC desire - I love it, its a great phone apart from the crappy Battery life. A few people have been asking me about getting an Android phone, and although I love Android, I cannot help but warn them about the one huge downside which is the battery.

However, out of the many other phones, which ones are along the same lines as the Desire, but have a better battery?

Much as I hate to say it, the Galaxy S seems to have a much better battery life than the Desire

I don't think it's Android that is the problem. You can do way more with these phones so they're on a load. I control my torrents, my media centre, play podcasts, use it for my emails and surf a fair bit on my Desire HD and get a day easy out of it. I took it off charge 5PM yesterday and it's at 70% now (I have only done a bit of surfing on it and WiFi has been on about 50% of that time).

If I don't do all that (i.e. just use it as a phone) I have to charge it every second or third day.
I've used the Desire / Galaxy S / Desire HD and after the initial few days where you're playing with it way more than usual generally the charging pattern I've had to do has been pretty similar.

Angry Birds is a battery killer though :)
You can use 10% - 20% of battery after a few games of that.

Why do you hate to say it? I'm not that familiar with the Galaxy S but what's wrong/bad about it?

On the whole it's a very good phone. Light, slim, great screen and pretty good processor, and as I said its got a reasonable battery life

If I owned the phone myself, then I may well have been able to sort out some of its issues, but it's my Dad's and I'm positive that I would end up bricking it if I tried to meddle with it at all

    GPS - Does not work
Wifi - Will not connect to his home network
Kies (PC Software) - Possibly the worst piece of software ever made, will not connect to phone, and this is the only way to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 which I am hoping will sort out the first two issues
    No Camera Flash
    No LED notifications

I'm don't mean to knock the phone too much, and as I say if it was mine, I'm sure I would have sorted all but the bottom 2 out by now

The Super AMOLED screen on the SGS is made up of LED's! it's not LCD and there is a wonderful app in the market called NoLED that makes use of this, it activates some of the screens LED's for phone notifications, it's customizable and free too.
I've been using it for a long time now and see no impact on the phones performance or battery life.

Kies works fine for me on Windows 7 and yep 2.2 fixed a lot of things along with the GPS, battery lasts longer too :) also no probls with wifi here

I have the Galaxy S and missus has thte HTC Desire. The SGS gets a hell of a lot more use than the Desire and she'd get a max of about 20-24hrs.
She'd use it for a few calls/texts/bit of internet - that's it. I get about 36 hrs on a charge using my SGS, and I'd use it for mostly calls/texts/internet (lots n lots of each).

Edit: Oh and I hate Samsung KIES! (Samsungs PC Studio!). It's the worst piece of software I've ever used. Worse than iTunes!
Thankfully I don't have to use it often!
