Any hair dressers on this board?

    Hi,
I hope this is the right board for this. I couldn't find a board dedicated to hair problems. Back in October, I dyed my hair a very dark brown/almost black colour. My roots were growing out. My natural colour is dark blonde so the roots were very noticable. I decided to dye it again. I went for a lighter colour this time. I choose the L'Oreal Excell 10 natural light brown colour number 6. I put it on tonight, I followed the instructions on the box exactly but the lengths of my hair are still dark brown (the exact same colour I put in 2 months ago) and the roots are BRIGHT RED!!

I was going to go out tomorrow and buy the same dye that I got back in October and put that in the roots only. Is it okay to dye my hair again within 24 hours? Is it safe? I don't want my hair to turn green or/and fall out. I don't think I'll be able to get a salon appointment this close to Christmas. Going to ring around salons tomorrow but I doubt I'll be able to get an appointment. But I need to get this fixed! Anyone got any advice?

Basically a tint wont lift a tint - so if your ends are dark you cannot lighten it up with a lighter colour - only the roots will lift.

Yes its ok to colour hair again within 24 hours. I would recommend going to a salon though!

What brand and colour did you use?

I'm not a hairdresser but if you get "Colour B4" from Boots it should take out the most recent colour you put in.

    http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4.-Hair-colour-remover-extra-strength-by-Scott-Cornwall-hair-expert._1000976/

It brought my hair back to almost my natural colour (after months of dying it different dark colours) and I am blonder than normal (mousey dark blonde/brown naturally) and I like it!

Just be aware that shop colours can have mental reactions with salon colours. Be very careful of home colour removers. They generally dry out the hair loads.
Its colour correction you'll be needing in salon. Find a good stylist and stick with them i say, home colours are only good if you plan on staying with the same one, changing it is where people usually fall down.

If you get a cool colour (like an ash brown) it should counteract the red tones at the top. Most home colours have a chart on the side that tell you if the colour is cool or warm. A hairdresser told me this when I did what you did!

I've often dyed my hair twice with in 24 hours as I've had many, many hair disasters!

If you go to a stylish to have the bottoms of your hair lightened, they'll bleach it, then put a tint over it which will dry your hair out severely!

Your best best for now is to put on the same dark colour as in October, then if you want your hair lighter again, do it with several trips to the hairdressers to lighten it gradually.

well you can get it colour corrected in a hairdressers
or u can keep colour your roots a lighter colour and wait for it to grow out,get it trimmed regularly.
AVOID putting colour in the rest of the hair, only do your roots, if u keep doing the ends you have a build up of colour,
