Astonishing and absurd article in todays Sunday Indo claiming amongst other things corrupt Gardai protecting high profile individuals/celebs and their drug habits. This newspaper in particular has had an inordinate amount of coverage on Gerry Ryan's inquest and was critical of the lack of coverage/Comment from RTE.

Well tonight not just RTE but the Gardai have come out with all guns blazing. The Garda commissioner has launched an investigation into the Sunday Indo's accusations and the Nine O Clock news dedicated about ten minutes of its bulletin to the article its claims and the Garda investigation, indeed they had their crime correspondent do a live report from Garda HQ and this station has issued a comprehensive statement on its website, taking great exception to some of the comments in the Indo's article.

Rather surprisingly the Journalist responsible for the story was making no comment tonight.

So, i wonder can the Indo back up what appears to be complete nonsense and have they shot themselves in the foot trying to make a story out of a none story!

Typical of this worn out rag, they tried to milk it to far and thought they would get away with it,hope the cops can show the story up for what it is.Wish they could sue them into oblivian. This paper is on the way down big time anyway,it and its larger company had its time in the son during the celtic tiger with their toy town journalists,(o conner, harris, the blonde, egan,o dea)and their political patronage from ahern and ff.

Yep, i just can't understand this papers obsession with Gerry Ryan's death, seems to me they are creating a new twist on this rather tedious story daily. I see to day the intrepid journalist responsible for all these wild accusations has gone to ground offering no comment all day (wonder why?)

I read the article yesterday and what was claimed sounded perfectly plausible to me! Given what has happened to this country over the past few years, the cronyism, corruption, lying, this seems like small fry!

Plausible that is if they can back up the claims which i feel went a little over the top. One good thing to come out of it was a reaction from RTE and Garda HQ

Jim Cusack reporting. If they have information, then why not go to the Garda Ombudsman with it?

Because going to the Gardaí with information doesn't sell newspapers.

Jim cusack is the journalist who wrote the diabolical article on the female Garda who died giving birth a few years ago and Angus fanning again was the editor as in this case. They have a track record of low standards! Haven't bought that rag since that article was written and never will again!
