    Hi
I have a firebird heatpac 90 (approx 10 years old) The burner has started to give trouble and have been told it will need to be replaced. It will cost approx €450 I am wondering what type of burner would be suitable for the above boiler. I am fairly handy and would be able to fit myself but dont know which type to go for .

Check and see what bolier you currently have. Maybe a Riello 40?? It is very easy to fit a new burner, especially a matching one.

Have you thought about upgrading to a condensing boiler? You would probably be eligable for a grant from SEAI that would make it fairly reasonable to move up.They give €700 towards new boiler and control upgrade. Also a new boiler would be a hell of a lot more efficent than a 10 year old model. Some of the plumber's on here will fill you in more but you would be wise to look at this option.

The guy I spoke to said that the boiler is fine and that upgrading i wouldnt notice much of difference! As I am no expert I took him at his word, plus upgrading would probably cost more than I can afford. Funds are tight especially this time of year!!

Have done a lot of work on boilers and burners over the years but would probably need a photo to see what set-up you have.

looks very like the riello 40g series , obviously new one has a few modifications would it be strong enough to heat a 3 bed semi??

You would need a burner to match up to your boiler BTU. A new Riello 40 is about €280 - €300 and would be a fairly easy swap. You could keep you existing one for parts if they matched up.

its says on outside off boiler that its a max cap of 24 kw how do you convert that that to btu?? thanks for replying by the way

I wouldn't worry what your boiler says if you are not going to change it. The Riello 40 is in my experience the most reliable and easiest to get parts for, so if you can get a comparable burner it is going to be very straight forward to change it.

I was looking for Riello spares recently and found this company on the net
Ended up getting part locally, but I bookmarked their site

    BTW, 24kw is 82,000 BTU
    1kw is 3,414 BTU

Head for your local heatmerchants, and any local plumbing/supplies would have it.
