Someone told me it is a good idea to spray wd40 oil on -I think it was -the spark plug cables to preventy dampness. Is that right and could cables to battery etc be sprayed too. Would it be best to spray or wipe on with a cloth.

Run the car first to dry out any moisture . Then when engine is stopped , clean the plugs and spray with wd 40 or a product called dampstart. It does help to prevent dampness. It can also be sprayed on battery connections , but is important to clean beforehand.:p

I suspect this advice may be VERY old school and more intended for the day when points ,distributors etc etc gave lots of trouble when damp...Possibly a LOT less of an issue in 21st century cars .WD40 would be fairly flammable right ?Hmmm...
