There's a great game by a company called Corvus Belli called Infinity(website- http://www.mayasphere.net/infinity_ENG/) that myself and quozl play. Thing is we're the only two active players in the country at the moment (at least that I know of), which we'd like to change. Quozl had the idea of running an escalation campaign for the DGG, but I'd just like to announce it here as well, mainly to stir up interest in the game and to let people know it exists. Even if you can't commit to a league and are interested in the game itself let me know and I can arrange a demo game to let you try it out and see for yourself. Alternatively if you do have minis and no-one to game chime in cause I'd love to hear from ya

Thanks Ian, here's the email I sent about the campaign. It would be based out of Models Inc on Capel street:

I'd like to run a small escalation campaign of the Sci-Fi skirmish game Infinity in the new year in the hope of getting new players to try it out.

The game is Sci-Fi themed, D20 based and involves forces of typically around eight to ten models per side. Reasonable proxies would be fine, 40K models for example would be fine.

Both the rules and army lists are freely available in PDF form from the manufacturers website:
    http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity_ENG/index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=192

The PDFs are the same as the published books except they are lacking the background fluff.

Basic video explanations of the rules are here:
    Orders

    Face to face roll
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24DJrs3b9p4
    Modifiers (cover etc)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCfmOAGWAUY

And videos explaining the fluff are here, you can also see the style of the various factions models:

    Fluff

Pan Oceania: The high-tech mega-industrialised clean-cut guys. Good shooting, poor will-power.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezishF133io

The other great super power. The Asian alliance, Yu Jing:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXfgmhtjCMY

Backward colonials from the mineral rich planet Ariadna. Thematically a mix of the French, Scottish and US settlers.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APrnXvi3Uio

Haqqislam, the new Islam. A society of science and learning.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2zSeg_rvSk

Nomad: Interplanatary pikeys. 3 megaships travelling the corridors of the human sphere, and home to the highly manga themed Nomads. Masters of electronic warfare.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTDKIU6_avk

    Combined Armies:
The bad guys. The vanguard of a massive alien force coming to eradicate or subjegate humanity. Purely alien force.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IweakMUILgw

Aleph: The forces of the artifical intelligence that glues the various worlds and factions of the human sphere together. Tech hybrid humans, droids, and a possible agenda of ruling humanity.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh_qwsDpmSQ

My plan would be something like 4 games over 4 weeks, of escalating points level. Starting with few points, and lighter infantry, and building up to including everything legal (drop-troops, invisibly deployed models, giant walking robot tanks, YMMV) by week 4.

So, is anybody interested before I finalise rules/scenarios?

Just as aside the new releases are up on the game's site and IMHO there one of the best batches I've seen

Website for the campaign is up at
    http://gregfarrell.org/paradiso/

The first mission 'Inception' should be publicly visible, later ones should be password protected.

Faction specific rules on the mission pages should also be password protected, and will be accessed by faction specific passwords during the campaign. These won't be released until the campaign starts.

I've only tested the page in Firefox and Opera, so if anybody spots any glaring problems let me know, please.

I've put the start date back to after Warpcon (last weekend of January) on a player's suggestion.

The Infinity campaign (http://gregfarrell.org/paradiso) running out of GamersWorld Capel street will be starting on Wednesday the 2nd of February.

There'll be one week per round, played on whatever day suits, and the points involved in each round will increase as follows:

Week 1 - 100 - No TO camo, No Impersonation, No AD:Lvl3, No TAGS, no guided ammo (gentle introduction week)
    Week 2 - 150
    Week 3 - 200
    Week 4 - 250 no TAGs allowed
    Week 5 - 250 TAGs allowed

So now you know how many points of models you need to either buy and assemble or find suitable proxies for by when.

I don't think Martin would appreciate you sending all his customers to Capel Street since his shop is on Jervis Street :)

Hey guys, the game looks very interesting.

Myself and another one of the lads were thinking about taking it up if it ticks all the boxes.

Is there any character development in it? Necromunda style.
Scars giving benefits or penalties to characters and that kinda lark.
Do you get to equip each character with items of your choice?

The models look amazing and I like the style of them. I don't know much about the world it's set in, but I way prefer a moderate group of models as opposed to hordes of Orks that take 10 years to fully paint.

    Heya Da Bounca,

it doesn't have character development like Necromunda unfortunately. Although some people on the forum have done up very simple rules like that for their own campaigns.

Each unit comes with a number of weapon/equipment load-outs you can select from. So, you might take a particular heavy infantry with a shotgun, a heavy machine gun, a basic rifle or as a doctor or your lieutenant.

A scout type unit might come in sniper, mine layer, forward-observer and hacker load-outs for example.

I'm enjoying skirmish scale games myself these days - I don't have the time to paint full armies, and tbh you have at least as many options with each model in a skirmish game as you tend to have with a block of 20 in a army scale game. Plus it's easier to emotionally invest in the individual soldiers than in units of nameless grunts imo.

    Hi,

Myself and a mate play Infinity a bit, really enjoying it. I play Pan O and he's got Haqislam.

If anyone's up for a game in Gamersworld some time give me a shout.

    Breff

I'd definitely be up for a game Tweedle Faduh. I've got somewhat limited availability these days thanks to 6 month old twins, so it would have to be at the weekend in Gamers World, or if either of you live near Ranelagh then you'd be welcome over for a game after 7:30pm.

What points value do you usually play at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 BTJ

Tweedle faduh, depending on times I'm up for a game too. I can't this week, but give me notice and I can meet up at pratically any time during the week, but thursday evenings would suit best

Martin in Gamersworld has just received a large delivery of Infinity, starter boxes, rulebooks etc today.

So, from today, he's stocking Infinity :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 BTJ

Deadly, I'm never against supporting him when he actually stocks what you're looking for. What prompted him? I really doubt it was just for us two occasionally playing a few games in the back of the shop like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,308 ✭✭✭quozl

He's wanted to stock it for some time, there's interest in the game and the models are beautiful, but he could only get it through one - woeful - supplier. So he's dealing directly with Corvus Belli now who are very responsive. They even included a small demo kit with 4 man Ariadna and PanO squads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Tweedle Faduh

Sweet, I'll gladly throw down some more cash for these minis.

Quozl, BTJ: Sorry I haven't responded sooner, real life go in the way.

@BTJ: I'm free on Thursday next week for a game.
@Quozl: I'll probably be away on the weekend but will definately be on for a game.

I've only a hand full of games under my belt. We played 300 points and I have Pan O.

    Ah right, seven any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 Tweedle Faduh

7 is good for me, sorry it took a while getting back to you.

It's grand, I'm assuming you're up for 300 points yeah?
