    Hi all,

I'm considering training as a psychotherapist, beginning in the next academic year. Very confused about the courses on offer in DCU and UCD and what my qualifications/experience will count for. Maybe someone can help?

So, UCD - H. Dip Psychotherapeutic Studies - 1 Year p/t. Then Masters courses ranging from 2 years p/t to 4 years p/t, depending on whether it's Psychoanalytic or Systemic etc.

DCU - Masters in Psychotherapy - 4 years p/t. Msc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy - 4 years p/t, in association with Turning Point. Turning Point also do a foundation course in Psychotherapy starting in January, which presumably helps with entry to the MSc in DCU.

Very confused about it all. Why is the UCD masters two years shorter than the DCU one? How can the Turnign Point foundation course be only three months but the UCD H. Dip foundation course take a year?

All advice greatly appreciated, especially by anyone who has done or is doing any of these courses!

Forgot to mention DBS - also a 2 year p/t course. Is this as good as the ones offered in UCD/DCU?

If you interested in Psychoanalysis, then UCD is the way too go. They run the course through The School of Psychotherapy in St.Vincent's Hospital. Depending on your experience you can just apply for the MSc.
