I was convinced one of these would suit me however I decided against based on the interior which is crap unless you get the nav screen and leather and also the 4 cylinder diesel was a bit rougher than I had expected.
You could get a 325d for not alot more and that has the 6 cylinder 3.0L diesel which is much much nicer in every way but will have more motor tax.

    MSport or SE?
try get as much spec as possible.

320d engine is 177bhp and very very good imo, a remap brings the car to life, although the 335d is an animal :D

very rare to see turbo problems in the E92 so far and theres not many bugs about imo, the only thing ive seen a bit is the DSC unit can go, but ive only seen that in the E90, not an E92 as of yet.

    cracking car.

buy on condition and history as the correct oil changes are needed for these diesel cars.

ideal spec to me would be :

    MSport
    leather
    iDrive/Sat Nav
    heated seats
    rear tint
    Logic 7 / USB
    Bluetooth
    19" 225M wheels

but in Ireland, that will probably be scarce so id be looking for leather, bluetooth, iDrive / Sat Nav at a minimum as the wheels etc can be added later easily.

I have one, a bog standard SE.

It's a good car with decent performance plus 50mpg which is important for me as I do alot of miles. An 08 will be cheap to run/insure/tax as you know.

I bought mine with 20k on it and now it has almost 60k miles(14 months)

    Things that have gone wrong:
The passenger seat couldnt be pulled forward to get in the back. Fixed under warranty although car is out of warranty.
Headlight washer nozzle popped off during the cold weather 3 weeks ago. Currently awaiting part for BMW to sort under warranty again.

I have the car remapped and it does feel a bit more lively however i think sometimes its in my head as there are two other e92 320d in my family and they feel just as quick.

The standard sound system is very poor also, a 99 clio has a better one as standard in my opinion.

They are very, very poor in the snow. Esp with bigger wheels and if you get an auto.

M sport Vs SE debate is a matter of personal preference. The M sport adds different front/rear design, sports seats/gear lever/steering wheel. Dark interior head lining and stiffer suspension. Pretty much all cosmetic.

Costs more but will be easier to sell and will hold bit of extra value.

I would recommend one, whether you want a bog standard one or one with all the toys and gizmos is completely up to you.

Good luck with it if you go for it and feel free to post links of ones you are looking at

cant believe i forgot about this - the headlight washer cap, fairly common problem alright, the tubing freezes up and then when the nozzles are exposed they stay open and hence the cap is lost!

as for the remap, cant believe you cant notice the difference, the ED 177bhp engine remaps to 210-220bhp, which is a big big improovement! who done the remap?

The remap was done by a company called ECU RS, basically a guy that didnt really know anything about mapping, takes the map of my car, sends it via email, gets a new one back a bit later and sticks the new one on the car.

Don't get me wrong, I do notice it. I was just expecting the other 320d in the family to feel alot more sluggish than it was after I had become accustomed to driving mine. I would love to put them beside each other to see the real world difference.

To the OP - I can get 56mpg if taking it very easy and when pushing it have never seen below 45mpg.

you should really notice it, when iput my E90 remapped against my sisters E90 standard, theres a world of difference.

    (both 320d 163bhp versions.)
