Weak heater fans, 98 Corolla

    Dear friends,

Just wondering really, nothing major. I have a 1998 Corolla and it seems to me that the heater fans are weak. Even when I run the fans at full notch, they make plenty of noise but I only get a trickle of air - whatever position I set them at.

It makes a huge difference on a damp or cold day when you are trying to clear the glass etc.

Are old Corolla's like this or is there a fix?

your pollen filter is possible blocked, not allowing the air tru, i think its located behind the glove box

    I had the same problem.
Slide the front seat back as far as it will go and kneel down and look under the glovebox, there is a black plastic box with some knobs to remove it.
This is the pollen filter, if you remove it and replace it the amount of air that will come through the vents will stagger you!

Or you can just remove it and not replace it...just put back on the cover.

I'll tell ya what, you were dead right about the pollen filter. I removed it yesterday and my car heating system turned into a jet engine. It's unreal the difference.

The old pollen filter is full of black dust. For the moment I am doing without a new one, they are a bit pricy (35 quid odd). Might try and find on on ebay, otherwise I'll leave it.

    Hi CJhaughey
Tell me where did you get that schematic from? I am looking on toyodiy.com but not seeing a detailed image like that, all I have is this - http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1998_TOYOTA_COROLLA_EE111R-DLMDKW_8714.html

I would stump up the cash for a filter, that black stuff would be inside your lungs otherwise.
You could always blow it out with a high pressure airline and that might get you a while longer,
That schematic is the next one down from the one you posted and page 2.
