Buying an ex-Taxi

Anyone got any experience in buying an ex-Taxi? Changing tax class, NCT etc. ?

Considering buying a W210 E240 Avantegard, ex-Taxi and still taxed as one. Pristine with FSH up to April 2009 (I done the two subsequent services myself) and taxed until well into the new year. A lot of car for what he's asking, and I know what has gone into it too!

Only thing holding me back is I just haven't a clue when it comes to the bureaucracy end of things. Do I have to notify our friends in the tax office immediately of the change of tax class or could I wait it out until Feb 2011 when the tax expires?

What about NCT? Do they have to be notified or when it comes up for renewal will the change of tax class be on their system already?

On the VLC you tick a box to mention it is now being used privately I think, the PSV tax is dead as soon as the car is no longer a PSV.

Thanks. I thought as much, just needed some clarification. Just hope I can do everything by post and don't have to go near the tax office.

Anyone know what's the story with the NCT? If the tax is void once it's being used privately, surely the NCT would be too? Or do I just wait until it's due for a test?

    I wouldn't think so :)
PSV tax is peanuts, 2400cc tax isn't.
NCT is an NCT, disadvantage of PSV NCT being it's for 12 months only. I reckon you'd be ok with the NCT.

I think that's something traditionally only said about BMW drivers.

Have you sold yours by the way yet, VB?

That's grand. No problems with the tax, I'm paying not far off it at the moment on my current car so not that much of a shock.

No your not going crazy my beloved Carina was for sale in a moment of madness. But thankfully nobody is touched enough to part with a grand for a 14 year old ex-taxi.

    So she remains.

    :)

So the Avensis is still in storage then?

I was looking forward to seeing how it performed as a taxi.
