I have the latest firmware version the Huawei router..I login to admin access on the router and under WAN settings and then USB Uplink... in the setting I blank out username and password and APN = '3ireland.ie' save and reboot..

The modem recognises there is a USB connected and tries to connect but doesn't.

Do I need to change any other settings?

I'm hoping someone can help me with a similar situation. Just switched over to Three and am using my old o2 HG532C router to plug in the dongle. It worked a dream with meteor - but with three it won't get past 'connecting' stage. It could have something to do with the fact that it NEEDS a username and password in the router settings for the usb modem. But Three don't use any. With meteor I just did used username TEST and pw TEST and it worked. No such joy with Three though.
    Any thoughts?

afaik Thr3e don't just not use a username or password they ignore any you might use so I doubt thats the problem.

Did you change the APN to 3internet?

Vodafone and Metor can both use internet as the APN so may be it was never changed, didn't know O2 used the HG532C.

yeh i changed the apn to the same one I use when I'm using the stick directly plugged into my laptop. it works a treat. I'll try again later on tonight -its very annoying to be honest!! The meteor one took 3-5 mins to set up and reboot yet this one seems to be fighting me!! Its the same usb stick, just unlocked so I doubt thats the issue.

Do you have an unlocked O2 dongle and a locked Vodafone HG532C?

Edit> Google seems to indicate the HG532C is an unbranded (not vendor locked) HG532a - is that correct? Its just confusing with the OP asking specifically about the Vodafone locked HG532a.

I have a Three Sim in a Meteor e173 dongle. And then I have a Huawei HG 532C router.

I want to plug in my dongle and then use wifi to share the 'midband' signal. However, the router will not allow me to leave the username and password blank. So i have tried THREE and TEST but it still just says 'connecting'.

When I used a meteor sim in the meteor dongle and plugged it into the router - it worked straight away once I changed the APN. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't use my VOIP phone at the moment with out it.

Looked at your pic, did you click on new and create a new profile?

Yeh i tried creating a new profile but it will only allow one for the USB/Mobile setting. So I thought I should just use the default one for now. I'll try creating a new one now.

William Powell you are a genius!! I thought I read in the settings sticky that three is *99 (without the hash at the end) so that's what I had in. It now works a treat - you are my savior!! Thank you!

Anyone have experience of connecting an O2 Huawei E 1752c to the vodafone 556a. O2 tell me their APN is open.internet.. is there anything else I need to know? Haven't bought the dongle yet. Want to be sure I can get it to work first.

Don’t know if you went ahead or not, but for your information the settings for O2 Dongle on the HG556a are-

    APN -open.internet
    User Name - gprs
    Password - gprs
And select Vodafone Spain from country presets

Not sure if this needs a new thread, if so please advise Mods.

I am trying to get an O2 HG532C router to work with a 3 Huawei mobile dongle, i am not sure if it is locked to O2 and that is why it will not work with the 3 apn settings?

I tried the settings suggestion in the posts above, see my attachment.

Still cant get it to work. Any help or a definitive answer on the possibility of it working in the first place appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help

@ downwiththatsor, not a clue if this will work and I doubt you'll get a definitive answer but you need to click that "New" button that can be seen in the attached pic then you can create a new profile with the 3 settings then set it as the default profile (uncheck the Wan connection box in the other connection profiles) and try again.

Thanks, tried that but no joy, locked to O2 i'd say, SIM card status = invalid:(
