51% of those surveyed welcomed the support of the EU and the IMF while 37% were opposed to it.

i thought this was fairly obvious all along, the silent majority restores my faith in the country moderately once again

but i find this the scary part, not really because of what they are saying but because of what it might imply
Asked if they believed an alternative Fine Gael-Labour government would have done a better job with the public finances, 38% said they would, 42% they would not, and 20% said they did not know.

so 62% who might not vote for fg/labour. do i thin they will be voting for sinn fein? not a chance. independants? maybe. fianna fail(again)? thats the scary possibility

unbelieveable! FF have to be removed from power because they are not going anywhere. Whatever happens after that i dont care. FF just has to go. The irish are nothing but greedy, spineless leprechauns that are rotten to the core. People might cop on on march the 17th when the world all over will to stop celebrating being irish. Theres nothing to celebrate anymore. We need St.Patrick back to drive the FcukingFailures out. Theres no hope

Just because people do not think that FG would have done a better job with the public finances, does not mean that people will not vote for them. There is a chance that a change may do some good.

In fairness, that's a staggeringly inaccurate interpretation of the survey, although I'm glad you at least used the word *might*.

There is a margin of 4% between those who are divided over whether or not the opposition would not have done any better with public finances.

But 100% of that grouping might still be willing to vote for them nevertheless, or 80% or 60% or whatever you're having yourself. The same goes for the 20% of respondents who were unsure about what difference the opposition would have made.

This survey is not a popularity poll nor a useful indicator of voting trends in itself.

If anything, the two very surprising findings to come out of this poll in my opinion are

    1. That only 20% are unsure whether the opposition would have done a better job. Without a crystal ball, I'm not sure how anyone could realistically or so certainly form such a view

    2. That 22% of people said we would be better off outside the European Union.

I'm not surprised in the slightest. We are a shambles of a nation and tbh we deserve everything that's coming to us.

I have to be honest I cant understand how people think FG, lab or even SF could be worse than FF.
FF have bankrupted anyone who bought a house in the last 5 to 10 years,
Bankrupted the public finances by bailing out the banks,
And saved the bond holders, the senior management in the banks and all the largest debtors of the banks by allowing the softy softy approach.
How in gods name do 42% of people believe that they will do a better job then FG/Lab?
