    Hey guys,

just wondering if any of you have been watching ESPN 30 for 30 docs on ESPN classic....I missed first few episodes but the ones I have seen have been class.

Highly recommend the Two Escobars..brilliant look at Colombian football links to drug money.

Looking forward to Marion Jones doc and the one regarding tupacs death on night of boxing fight.

Anybody recommend some I may have missed??

    Cheers

That's the beauty of them - you don't have to have any interest in the sport in question, they're just so well produced you'll enjoy them anyway. I had Sky-plussed the one called 'Pony Exce$$' and watched it last night. It's about a Texan College American Football programme that gets shut down because they broke rules of recruitment,

I've little interest in Gridiron but it was simply fantastic... The Marion Jones one is great, I've also seen the Allen Iverson and Reggie Miller ones and they were both great.

It's some of the best Sports programming you'll ever see.

It can be hard to catch them when they're on - does anyone know for sure when the next one is on?

Kiddin me?? Aw man, don't got Sky (I know I used the term 'Sky-plussed' earlier but I'm not sure what the equivalent term is for us poor saps who have NTL!)... No ESPN Classic, just regular ESPN & ESPN America.

I'm starting to study American sporting history and I very recently saw the first episode (Wayne Gretsky , Kings Ransom). I have to say I was a little disappointed. It was a little too much style and not enough substance. Plus it appeared to be full of anecdotes that didn't go anywhere (eg they mention the manager of the Edmonton Oilers said he wouldn't stand by and let the Gretsky transfer happen, then they cut to the owner pointing out to the manager that he has no say in the matter and .... eh .... thats it ..... story goes nowhere, so why mention it?). Full of needless stuff like that I found and it just found annoying and pointless. Plus having the director of the doc interviewing the subject on a golf course just smacked of "buddies" who was gonna get kid-gloves examination rather than an impartial or in depth study. Basically the tone just wasn't right. It really felt like you weren't getting the full picture.

I might watch a few more to see if they were all like this, but if they are then I think I'll leave it at that.

The Ali v Holmes one was very good, if not very sad at the way he was exploited

They're all made by different film makers so the style varies greatly between them.

I have watched most of them i thought Reggie Miller vs NY Knicks,Without Bias and Little Big Men were the best so far. You don't to have any interest in the sport thats featured but I think it helps.

I was excited when I saw it advertised. Ive seen four of five now and have them taped. None of them so far have been brilliant, all ok. Maybe its just me. I suppose being a sports fan I was hoping to have more of a documentary feel rather than being bona-fide films. All of them just seem a little light.

Once Brothers is by far my favourite of the series. Very moving story to it really.

Once Brothers is excellent and it's available to watch on youtube (or was a few weeks ago anyway) very moving documentary.

Seen a few others - the Colts marching band, the Reggie Miller one and Small Potatoes about the USFL were all very enjoyable.

As a hockey fan I liked the Gretsky one but the golf course stuff was a bit odd alright.

The Legend Of Jimmy The Greek is the best one I've seen so far.

The Two Escobars is absolutely amazing. Would put it as one of the best documentaries I have seen. I enjoy all of the 30 for 30 though. Sat down a good bit back and watched about eight in a row. I love sport, I love documentaries and it followed that I loved this!

First read about ESPN 30 for 30 in this thread. Downloaded the "Once Brothers" episode and really enjoyed it, really interesting story. Can understand what people are saying about more style than substance though. Have all the rest on download now, perfect for watching over Christmas!
