I mighta failed a continuous assessment class but I'll definitely pass all the other classes. Does pass by compensation apply to CA classes?

I am Pretty sure that you repeat. Lecturer told me during the week that there are people repeating her class from last year and the module in question is entirely CA.

If the module is both CA and exam, if you more than pass the exam to compensate for the CA fail you will pass the module. Thats the way it was 2 years ago anyway!
Maybe send your lecturer an email to confirm though, I reckon this might differ for each lecturer!

Let us know if you find out :D

Marks and Standards have changed now as far as I know. You just need to get 40% overall in the module.

For example, MS121 is weighted 30% to CA and 70% for the exam. So if you get 0% in your CA, you can still pass the module by getting 60% in the exam...as far as I know...

The other way round in my case. I passed the CA but completely ****ed up the exam. Maybe I'll get to repeat the exam though. Yeah I'm gonna ask the lecturer about this.

i'm doing a degree in IT with oscail which is run by dcu. last year i sat the ca module but i get the idea that it was a very different module from full time students. all we had to do were three assignments and an exam. the assignment counted for 50% of total as did the exam. once you received more than 40% of the marks by combining both, you passed.

i'm curious though as to what the labs involved or the programming exams. we had no hands on work to do at all. it was all just theory.
