Volvo, especially if you're tall, although the leather seats in my SAAB are good too

    E39 E38 comfort seats

    Volvo and Saab

Stay away from VAG . they'll leave you crippled

The BMW's have nice seats but you'll have bad posture fiddling around trying to work out the idrive system. Stupid wheel .. why not touch screen !!! arrggghh !!

Scandinavian cars such as Volvo and Saab have some of the most comfortable seats available. Leather is a must in them.

+1 had an 18 year old Volvo a couple of years ago, even with the heated option not working, it was like sitting on a mould of gel just wanting to adjust to your shape.

    Very very comfy,great for passengers.

Have an alfa now, love the sporty shape of the seats, but for long journeys prefer the bf's C5

A 00 Accord with leather was the most comfortable car I've ever sat in bar none!

Most comfortable that I sat in were the Hyundai Tucson's front seat, however Ive not being in too many Bmers, mercs ect ect in my life so I wouldnt know if they are better of not.

Worst ever has to be the Mk2 Megane:rolleyes:

Worst seat I've ever sat in was that of a 03 Fiesta LX. I don't know how anyone would drive in that seat for more than 20 mins.

Anything with Recaro seats! The seats in my Integra feel like they were moulded just for my ass...

Ill agree with Volvo also. My mother used to have an old Volvo 340 when we were kids and it was unbelievable. The seats were so soft and heated! My 99 Accord also has really comfortable seats.

The Seats in the old Model S60 were apparently voted the best at one point, but I can't find the poll to back up that claim. Didn't think they were that special myself - always felt a bit on the high side. New S60 is a bit lower, but I'd still like to be nearer the floor - that said, after a couple of hours in them I can get out with no aches or pains.

The S40/V50 is similar, but does go low enough. So many different adjustments can be made to get it in to just the right position.

BMW standard seats without Lumbar support don't work for me. Sports seats are sooo much better.

I like the sport seats from the VAG range. The standard seats in the GTi really hold you in place. I'm also a fan of the Sport Seats in the Passat, especially in the Leather/Alcantara from the older Highlines.

Renault seats (which some people find fantastic) are far too soft for me. I can get back ache in 5 minutes in a Laguna.

Most of it is down to personal preference, as everyone has a slightly different seating position, and prefers support in different areas.

I'd always make sure there is lumbar support on any car I buy as it makes a huge difference, although there wasn't in the A5 I did 600km in on Wednesday and I got out feeling very good - mainly because it was Motorway all the way so had the cruise on and the seat cranked back.

my chiro reckons jap cars typically have the most comfortable seats

My E39 seats were great...been in a few A4's and not impressed...too hard

Recaro do a very impressive (and expensive !) range of aftermarket seats ...tested and approved by doctors and all that.
Recaro seats that are OEM equipment are usually down a notch or two from that level, but still very good (unless you get sporty bucket type seats)

I have to agree on Volvo and Saab seats though. The Saab 9000 seats that I stuffed into my van have none of your cheapo foam pads ...it's all springs and fibre/horshair/etc padding, i.e proper upholstery ...comfortable like an expensive couch

    +1

Had the comfort seats in my E38 735 and they were very comfortable indeed. Big too, would have fitted a 20 stone person easily :D

I seat itself was comfortable in the S40, but the overall driver and passenger postion were horrible!

old american cars from the 70s 80s had the most comfortable seats i have ever seen. bench seats really do the job you could almost sleep in them

Test drove an IS220 a few yrs ago and the seats were like sofas. Don't know if they were standard or not.

The seats are the best feature in my Scenic.

    Another +1 for the Volvo.

S40 seats (heated, leather and elec settings) have excellent support and comfort.

Worst by far is the Honda Jazz, cheap and nasty with zero comfort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 360 ✭✭mytime

Another +1 for Volvo especially with heated and memory seats. It used to take ages to get the seat "right" with lots of adjusting. Now if anyone else uses the car I can get my wing mirrors and seat back to my settings at the press of a button:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 941 ✭✭✭hairyman

    Worst seats - 97 golf 1.4gl.

    Best seats - Volvo S80 T6, or 88 Opel Senator's heated leathers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

Momo seats that I got from an Alfa 156 and put in my Bravo. If only I had seats this comfortable in my house :D

    Image0164.jpg

As for the worst seats? Toss up between an old 92 Seat Ibiza I used to have, so cheap, firm and back breaking. Or a car that didnt have seats, I had to sit on a bucket...

I seat itself was comfortable in the S40, but the overall driver and passenger postion were horrible!

We're talking about seats here, is the rest really necessary?

The worst seats I've been in are in our B6 A4 Cabriolet and also an Alfa Brera. I have to say that the latter car was worse though (incredibly firm).

I had an S60 for about 5 years and I would vouch too that they are like couches - great for the mileage I put in.

The "arm chairs" in the Citroen Xm have to be the best ever !! Leather or fabric, doesn`t make a difference. Also had electric, heated leather in my C5 were faultless as well. Now have an E-Class Merc and are very comfortable.

The seats in my dad's Peugeot Partner van were shockingly comfortable and soft.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭maninaskirt

    Worst for me: A4
Best for me: EVO 5/Accord typeR Recaro's.

Worst; an oul 90's nissan micra.
    Best: honda accord leather seats.

Alfa 147 sports seats. Most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,769 ✭✭✭eljono

I agree about Volvo S60 seats being very comfortable, however I prefer a seat that you sink into and I feel like I'm perched sitting on the S60 seats as they are so padded. The seats in my Xsara VTS are one of its key features, very supportive and comfortable. Only issue is that the side bolster on the drivers side is frayed from getting in and out

The older Volvo S70 and 850 seats were in my opinion better than in the newer S60's. A lot of older Peugeots have nice seats too e.g. 406 Rapier and 607

I've those exact seats pictured above in the 156 and they are very good. The wife's Volvo V70 with heated leather is sumptuous in the current conditions.

Hands down, (heated) leather RX 8 seats. It's like being cradled by a friendly giant. Super soft + supportive too.
    Mazda_RX_8_005.jpg

When you lie them down the lower back raises too so there's never any "fresh air" on the small of your back. Slept in them on numerous occasions!

My favourite was big leather ones in a Nissan X-Trail. Maybe the driving position added to the comfort too.

It's comments like this that prove my theory that seats are indivudual to everyone.

I'm currently driving an X-Trail Elegance (heated, Electric seats) and they really don't work for me at all.
