So the next election is on its way.

As per usual we are going to have politicians knocking on the door looking for votes etc.

So what motoring issues will you be asking your local politician to get sorted?

I have 3 of which have exactly 0.0% chance of getting done.
And 1 which might get done.

    1. Reduce the duty on fuel (not a chance)
    2. Remove vrt and go back to the old tax system. (havent a prayer)
    3. Fix up the roads and force utility companies that tear up the road do a crap repair job to pay for the job to be done properly. (possible but unlikly)
    4. Remove road tolls. (again. Not a chance)

What will you be asking for?

    G.

I'd like to see motor tax replaced with an additional tax on fuel, the more you drive the more you pay (and I do 25k miles a year) but it makes more sense to me.

I've no real problem with tolls you are paying to drive on a better road, but I do like a suggestion I read about recently where rather than having fixed toll points you paid a percentage based on the amount of the tolled road you drove?

pointless talking to them really...unless you can talk your way out of a room with no doors.

Cars that have been/are off the road (and not been driven), for legitimate reasons, ie. owner working abroad, classic car only taxed for summer months, etc.... rumor has it that back tax will have to be paid. I would like clarification, from politicans, or any one that has facts.
I have a car (1.8ltr) parked up for over 3 years now (working abroad). The back tax on this will be a substantial figure.
I want to know where I stand.

I will be argueing for the Ballvourney-Macroom works on the N22 and extension of Motorway/Dual Carriageway from the Ballincollig bypass to the begining of the mountain climb over the county bounds west of Ballyvourney. Our taxes are brutal, however if we had a decent roads network then we would be getting our moneys worth. We have German level taxation and Ethiopian level infrastrucuture.

I will also be arqueing for the complete outsourcing of all road works and maintainance from the local councils and give the NRA powers over every road in the country.

Remove duty on winter tyres. Sick of seeing Guards wasting time on unnecessary accidents because of this. A similar scheme to the''scrappage'' discount should be offered to incentivise the take up. Will hopefully lead to increased employment also.
