Xmas week & I have to get 4no 195/65 R15 (Pirelli on at moment) and a new battery for a Mazda 6.....Buy hey no point in moaning, just get on with it.

Question is....Would there be much € to be saved/if any, between soucing in Dublin or outskirts (Naas, Navan etc...) or 4 hour round trip accross the border ?

If you can get Federal, they would be a slightly cheaper alternative to the Pirelli's. I found them very good tyres on my last yoke and they got some aggressive testing! I had P6000's on a previous car and found them to be pretty decent - couldn't find much difference between the 2 different tyres, regarding road noise or wear.

If you're getting a battery, go to a motor factors - they'll probably be the cheapest place to get one!

+1 on the motor factors, I priced a battery in Halfords once and got it for half the price in a Motor Factors.

Bradshaws down in Newbridge/Kildare are decent, dealt with them in Portlaoise.

I'm in Swords, as is my mechanic, and he has recommended heading up North for new tyres, reckons I'd save 25%.

I might sound paranoid, but I'd never buy part worn tyres, prefer to have new tyres? To me it's one of the most important components of a car, to have decent tyres is important.

In my experience Dave McCann for tyres is hard to beat for service and price, I doubt going North would be worth the hassle for what you may save.

I had Cooper Zeon XTC's on my Golf and found them very good in the Summer.
I thought they were ok in the Winter until I switched to All Seasons (Hankook H730).

If you want a tyre that can deal with snow then I would look at those for the one tyre for all the year option.

If you are not interested in that the Coopers were really rather good and I would have respect for their whole range.

Agreed, but 4 main brand part worn could be picked up with over 5 - 6 mm thread for the price of two lesser brands which might save the op some euros..

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get tyres around Newry?
