Car Crash - Minor scratch and No claims bonus affect

    Hi,

My wife had crashed into a car while reversing. Both parties exchanged details of insurance. How long does OP have to call my insurer and make a claim? How fast does insurance come back to me informing OP has made a claim on my policy? I tried to call OP to settle out of insurance as it was just a minor scratch on OP's car just to save my no claim bonus. I am not sure doing this is worth or not? Also, how does no claim work? Does claim of amount affect no claim? Any explanation and suggestions welcome.

    Thank you.

basically the person your missus drove into can claim for all and sundry unfortunately, irrespective of whether the damage was minimal or not

its not unhheard of to have a claim of 1k for damage the size of a 20 cent scratch on a bumper unfortunately, and I dont think you get much say into arrairs, but I may be wrong.

such is the state of poilices here im affraid

Depends on your insurance company, some companies will push you back part of the way towards a zero NCB, others will be more aggressive and wipe out your NCB on a single claim. It also depends on how much of a NCB you already have because if you have the max. NCB you will probably be hurt less by a single claim than if you only had a couple of years on an NCB.

Some companies are more forgiving than others, I'm with Axa for so long now and I'm in a low-risk category because of my age so now they're claiming that I have a 'lifetime' NCB, not sure if this would stand up if I submitted two claims in rapid succession but generally it all depends on who you're insured with and for how long, you'll need to check their website or just ring, say you had a small scrape and how would a 3rd party claim affect your NCB, they'll tell you there and then.

However do not contact them unless you have to if your renewal is imminent because some of them scrap your NCB the minute they smell a claim on the way or even if there's a possibility of a claim in the next couple of months. You would then get the NCB reinstated if the claim fails to materialise or if you settle privately. That said, they do expect you to notify them if you have been involved in an accident.
