    These are "all seasons"
Are they better than summers on ice and snow?
Or just good for nothing hybrids?

Check out the thread on 2 winter tyres or 4 and look at the posted videos. In those videos winter tyres are compared to all seasons.

I suppose all seasons are not as good as summers in the dry and not as good as winters in the snow/ice, but they will be better than summers in snow/ice and so on.

A mate is offering these with rims as well so Im tempted.

    My goal is winter tyres.

Im wondering what % better they are than summer tyres in icy/snowy conditions?

I know prob a near impossible question.

I can use these in the winter and then get a decent set of winters next year in Sept perhaps.

It is a near impossible question to answer. I don't know how those tyres are rated as all seasons either. They will be better in snow/ice I would imagine than summers, especially when things turn to slush etc. When it's snow/compacted snow or icy they might miss the grip that winters would provide.

It's your decision bud, also depending on the kind of terrain you drive on. We have to cope with quite a lot of hilly terrain so winters were the only option for me and they have transformed my vehicle.

Dont even wait till sept, buy in july or any of the summer months out of season when places have long forgot the winter and are flogging them

I'd think so. Its prob inevitable some places will get decent stocks of winters in in january and if it isn't as bad as last year they ll have plenty left over come march and will happy to flog them for a few quid less.

I'd say you will pick up a really cheap set of winters next spring. Some people who would have bought them now and take them off will be thinking they ahve "cash" lying in their garage and they probably won't need them again. I'd say 200 Euro's will do the trick :D

Ps. You're not getting mine, oh nooooo, I love my winters:)

I am running a set of Falken Ziex ZE-912 205/45 R16 V (87), Reinforced and I would describe them as rubbish. Very fast wearing, poor in the dry, shocking in the wet and useless in the snow. Not sure if the ZIEX are different to the ZEs?

I have used these tyres for about 8000 miles with little or no wear, in fact they carry a 60,000 mile guarantee as far as I remember. I have used them in frost, dry roads and wet roads without any bother at all.

I now remember looking at these and the Kleber All season ones as a possible alternative to winters, the lack of more snow thread put me off I think, looks like a decent wet weather tyre though.

I've being using these tyres on my 350Z . Yes they wear a bit fast. Only around 10000 Miles on the rears and almost need to be replaced (have a tendancy to replace tyres before they reach there limit though). I've used them in the current weather conditions and they seem to be managing okay with no surprises. Travelled from the midwest to kildare last week with no issues.

    Agreed!
I had the ZE912s too and tbh, its them that put me off All Seasons. They really perform like an average Summer tyre IMO (they arent summers though). If you want them for Snow and Ice performance improvement dont bother, they effectively offer nothing over Summers. Sadly I had them on a Quattro too, so they should have been in their element!

Are you thinking of the very good Falken 452's ?

slightly o/t, but a big ++ on the 452' on my 968. Only 400 for 4, as well. Hard to beat, in fairness.

You are wrong there Piri, they are advertised in the Summer section, but it clearly states that they are indeed all-season tyres. The thread pattern on All-Season tyres is much more elaborate than ordinary summer tyres. Can you show me where its says "Dont use in snow/winter" or did you make that up all by yourself. ;-)

    Taken from Falken web site

Imagine an all season performance tire designed to offer true grip and increased traction that ultimately advances driver confidence whatever the weather condition. With the ZIEX ZE912, Falken has developed a tire with full-depth sipes encircling the tread, coupled with high-volume circumferential grooves and high angle variable cross grooves, that brings together the spirit of performance driving in all climates. When faced with wet conditions, the ZIEX ZE912 features increased hydroplane resistance and increased tread stability by evacuating water away, delivering improved grip composure, while its hybrid-asymmetric pattern produces better dry performance. A genuine touring tire with confidence, through a 65,000 limited mileage warranty on 60/65 series and 40,000 limited mileage warranty on 55 series and under. This results in a tire that performs regardless of the condition of the road each and every season.

    Hi all,

I have a new (2nd hand) VW Touareg 2.5L TDi which came with Triangle 235/65/17's whcih are due for replacement.

I'm looking for good performance all season tyres and thinking of going with the Falken Ziex ze-912's dropping the profile a litte from 65 to 60 so 235/60/17's. See them here http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?details=Ordern&cart_id=24594158.110.12244&typ=R-165567&ranzahl=4&Breite=235&Herst=Falken&Quer=60&Felge=17&Speed=H&weiter=0&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=15&Transport=P&dsco=110

Good or bad idea? Will the drop in profile have much effect on performance/grip/handling/road noise?

    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Ben

Ive heard all seasons are not that good. Nothing beats winters / summers.

I think when your talking all seasons your talking either the goodyears or the hankooks on eiretyres.ie. Nothing else really seems either genuine or worth buying.
I got the hans as did a good few others.
Never driven winters, nowhere to store them.
Can't ever see myself buying them or needing them cause the all seasons are so gripy. Hoping to get two possibly 3 years outta them providing no punctures.
The threads on those nokian's dont even look all season they look more like continental summer threads, wouldn't buy em myself
