I'm meeting a woman later who is from spain but self employed here since moving here in June. Her two childern are here too. Her Husband still lives and works in Spain.

She is registered with Revenue as being married but living apart.

My question is does she fall into the single parent qualifying for one parent tax credit and therefore the €40,400 threshold at 20%?

    Hi

I understand that where one spouse is non resident, you cannot claim joint assessment and thus she is not entitled to the €40400 standard rate band.

She is entitled to the single parent allowance if she satisfies the conditions set out here. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/credits/one-parent-family.html

BTW, if you are a practicing accountant and advising a client on such matters you should really be taking the time to look this up for yourself rather then relying on boards.ie and strangers to tell you all the answers ;)

    Kind Regards
