I have a 3-4 year old Sony 40" which is only MPG2 compatible. It does display the digital EPG with RTE etc. I checked it today to see if 3E was listed as I am considering purchasing a Saorview box. I am seeing some UK channels listed (NO BBC'S) - is this a sign of things to come? Am pointed to Maghera.

Note - the channels don't appear to have sound and have only recently appeared.

    Channel Listing
    001 RTE1
    002 RTE2
    003 TV3
    004 TG4
    005 RTE NEWS NOW
    006 TG4
    007 3E
    008 ITV1
    009 ITV2
    010 CHANNEL 3
    011 E4
    012 MORE 4
    013 CHANNEL 4+1
    014 ITV2+1
    015 FIVE
    016 RTE TWO TEMP

You are using a group aerial ?

Probably the reason you areseeing some channels and not others (besides the Saorview Channels).

Imagine what a wideband would do.... or a few grouped.

Get a Freeview HD(DVB-T2) Box rather than a Saorview Box. That way you will receive all (Saorview and Freeview HD) including the NI HD channels which will come on in late 2012/early 2013.

    DVB-T2 MPEG4 H264 L4 > DVB-T MPEG4 L4 > MPEG 2 SD

£50 Sterling..... (ie they are on special at the moment).

I'm not sure what my aeriel type is - looks like an arrow but with a flat piece at end. Sorry for my ignorance!

I live in Nth Galway so I'm not sure if a Wideband would get me anything this far away from Nth ireland?

Plus my aeriel is currently pointing Sth East to Maghera - would it still get signal from the opp direction??

You are picking up a high pressure 'lift' from the North, probably Brougher. If around Mountbellew or Ballygar the back of the aerial, it being pointed at Maghera, is ALSO pointed at Brougher. If around Shrule it is not aligned, Brougher analogue can be picked up on high ground in N Galway.

When Brougher ups the power in 2012 ( late) you can chance maybe poiinting a second aerial north at it and getting Freeview HD signals with a Freeview HD set top box. The ones you see now are not HD.

    So weather related??

I am west of Headford. Looking at a map there Maghera is pretty much due South of where I am now.

It's very unusual in that the Freeview channels listed above are supposedly on a weak mux (2), if coming from Brougher.

My folks live much closer to Brougher, and with their current setup (a grid aerial in the attic, setup up for analogue UK TV), they get the stronger muxes (just about) but not a sniff of the 2 weaker muxes (2 and A).
