Why no aluminium iphone ?

Apple are so into their aluminium, how come they haven't got an aluminium iphone ? If anything it would stop the "back Crack" they suffer from.

Surely it would be heavier? Isn't there talk of getting rid of it in the iPad 2 to save weight? I like the glass back on iP4, I think once you are careful, you're OK!

I thought the original was aluminium but that it had an adverse effect on reception? I could be getting mixed up with something else though, so maybe someone who had an original could confirm/deny that?
