Pain after extraction

I had one of my back teeth extracted on Wednesday. I had an abcess and basically the tooth was a shell and filled with infection. It splintered during the extraction so he had to take out some of the root seperately i.e. it didn't come out when he pulled the tooth.

I was just wondering if it's normal to still be experiencing very bad pain 2 days later. I am taking anti-biotics and have been given Tradol for the pain but they make me dizzy. Went to the chemist to get Solpadeine but due to the new restrictions he only gave me disprin which aren't helping at all.

Hi Sorry to hear you're in so much pain:(
My sister got out 2 wisdom teeth last week-she did have an infection beforehand and took a course of anti-biotics before the dentist took them out. Anyway she was in quiet a lot of pain with one in particular for quiet a few days(4-5) after the extraction. The chemist did give her solphadine for the pain though...if they refuse you some ask the dentist to write you a script for solphadol(same thing really). Disprin are no good for that type of pain IMO!! I think if it is unbearable just head back to dentist anyway - it wouldnt do any harm(my sis did)

Go back to dentist for check over, might have missed bit of tooth? and get a scrip for better meds.

A condition called 'dry socket' is a possiblity which is a nerve pain in exposed bone that needs to heal over before it eases and this will take as long as it takes, maybe three weeks but suddenly pain gone. It is unusual but I had it and I suspect also my daughter. Diluted oil of cloves is good for local pain relief.... remember drop or so with water = never neat! Make a tiny wad of tissue/gauze. Dentist will do this for you and clean out 'socket' which can get full of debris and add to woes.

solpadeine is still an over the counter drug, you just need to make your case for it. you shouldn't need a script for it.
go back to the dentist who took it out. he's the only person who will know what's going on.

give them a call today, if it's an emergency then they may be able to fit you in. it should take about 10 mins max. plus they might not be open on the last saturday before Christmas!
