Ok I've done a search and can't find an answer so far...

I'm looking for recommendations for a good TV card for my HTPC that will enable me to get Freeview/Freesat and Saorview. I have two free satellite connections coming into my sitting room so a card that has the same functionalities as a SKYHD box would be ideal i.e PVR.

I live in an apartment so sticking up an outdoor aerial for the Irish digital stations would be tricky, would I be able to receive them via the satellite cables?

Price is not really an issue on the card as I don't mind spending a few € on something solid that will do the job. My system has an Intel Q6600 & a 9600GT graphics card & I'm running Win7 Ultimate if that makes any difference.

    Thanks (really mean it!),

    TheZohan

I don't think you can get Saorview via satellite, and for the aerial you can use indoor one, I personally don't have outdoor aerial, the indoor one works like a charm.

No Saorview via satellite yet. RTE NL hope to have Saorsat on rented space on Ka-Sat, Launching the end of Dec 2010. Tests end of April 2011.
You need a special Ka-band LNBF pointed at 9E with a separate dish or offset multifeed.

An indoor aerial only works for those near a transmitter. Otherwise an Attic or Roof aerial. Just like Analogue UHF TV.

Any apartment complex with a bit of cop on have UHF aerial and satellite combined which is separated again at points in apartment.

    Combo PC Card
    Medion TV Karte Creatix CTX 1924 DVB-S DVB-S2 DVB-T €65
    attachment.php?attachmentid=134467&stc=1&d=1289436752

The rest is done by software.

Windows 7 has H264 natively so the in built media centre will do the rest.

You will need a very big satellite dish to receive it in NY, perhaps even a dish from the Kennedy Space Centre.
