correct me if im wrong but is it the case that playing games on a plasma screen is a bit of a NO NO , causes screen burn due to the still images or something

was thinking of getting a games console , would it shorten the life of the plasma

    thanx

it wudnt shortn the life of the tv it wud just wreck it..buy a cheap tv for the games console..if you do use the plasma and burnt images appear from prolonged use of console one way to help clear this is select a channel thats not tuned in so the screen will appear in grey/white all the time..leave the untuned station on for as long as possible & it will significantly clear the burnt image..repeat process if necessary..if this doesnt work fire a hammer through it blaim the child & claim off house insurance..your insurance may go up 50 quid but a new plasma is 500 quid..its a win win situation;)

its not really an issue these days, samsung have some cool new super slim plasmas which ive used for games and dont burn in at all., barely slight image retention at all.

on a related point, I heard dont use projectors for games consoles as it can wreck the console???, doesnt sound right to me, anyone else ever heard of this?

btw - can anyone tell me what the usual video outputs are from a games console - VGA (15 pin blue comutper thing?), s video, composite etc???

At this stage, plasma's are extremely resistant to burn in, especially Pioneer(RIP) and Panasonic. Image retention is only a short term thing but again on panasonics, its hardly a problem anymore, you do hear more about it on Samsungs and LG's though.

    Betsy Og, that sounds like a load of rubbish tbh, sure the console is only supplying the projector with a signal,how could that possibly harm the console? Outputs at this stage are;

    HDMI (X360 and PS3 only)
    VGA (X360 only)
    Scart/Composite/S-video/Component (All of them)

For my money the PS3 is the best.

It's a little more expensive than the X Box, but you get wifi larger HDD and it plays Blu Rays.

Then, I'm not a mad gamer and the X Box has more games.

can the playstation 2 still be purchased

Not in the shops, unless they have some really old stock.

You could get it on ebay or Amazon.

    Why a playstation 2?

cheap, cheap games and all it is for is random novelty im guessing...
if its novelty you want then the wii can be a good one...

in terms of consoles ps3 is the best graphically but really lacks the games for it imo compared to xbox. though at this stage both have a nice collection out.

also there is that new controller from playstation and the kinekt from xbox to consider...
kinect needs an 8 foot by 8 foot room minimum so make note of that..

the main expense generally isnt the console its the games after ^^
also consider the kinekt can be used for video calls and other stuff i believe if others have them and you have a decent net conection.

for your original question, abuot burn in iv seen it on old plasmas and yeah its blatantly obvious, but people leave the sky menu on also which is the same constant screen, and just as bad as a game if not worse. similarly matches etc have constant score in top left and that leaves a mark..
not much can be done really, but as said newer tv's there isnt this issue anyway really
