    Hi all,

Rite so to cut a long story short. PS3 stopped working, wont read discs, 2 years old. Bit of a joke as it wasn used that much as myself and the brother are living away from home during the week. Pretty annoyed with sony so tryin to see other s ways of fixing it.

Called into gamestop today to see if they fixed it or to see what there opinion was. According to them waste of time getting it fixed as it will just break again in a few months. They dont fix them by the way so are they just saying this. they recommended i buy a new one for 299 euro.

I presume i need a new blue ray drive. I'm pretty handy with my hands so i'd be able to replace this myself. I already took it apart to try and clean lens.

Any ideas on where to get it fixed cheap or on where to get a new drive.

Thanks in advance for help :-)

You could go the Small Claims Court route, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055795516, or repair it yourself.

    .

I used this place, http://www.consolerepaircentre.ie/, different prolem for me but I'd use them again.

Same thing happened me, not reading discs but also it won't accept or eject them. You might get away with just replacing the laser rather than the whole drive. Can be found reasonably enough on eBay. Was lookin at buying a full replacement myself for around 80-90. Just can't afford to buy a brand new one. Just make sure you check the PS3 model number and model of laser that u need.

I replaced a blu ray lens myself this week, was only $40 on ebay but i think i lucked out with that price. Normally around €50.

There are a few others threads about this as well.
Just make sure you order the correct replacement !!

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

Will the fact that i've already opened it lastweek to try and clean the laser affect my case in the court as i've broken that plasctic sticker on the side ( the warranty void one, my warranty was no good after a year anyway).

Any have luck in the small claims court. is it a long or expensive process..

You don't have much chance now of winning with it opened as there's no way to show you didn't break it yourself.

It's not expensive and a few people from boards have gotten their money back.

But you won't, as Varik has already stated.
