    Hi Folks,

Is there anywhere in Ireland you can drop in an iPhone for repair or replacement with an official dealer? I have an iPhone that needs replacing but I'm not too keen to wait til after Christmas or wait the 10 days for AppleCare. Asked CompuB but shockingly they don't deal with iPhone at all. I'm amazed O2 or Vodafone don't have AppleCare centres etc.

Next best option is Victoria Square I presume?

    ironclaw.

There's a guy in Celbridge that does them. He's not an offical dealer, but he's fairly cheap and does good work.

I've gotten a few things done in there.

    What is wrong with it?

If its under warranty don't let any repair place near it. if they open it up they invalidate the warranty. If you have AppleCare protection plan on it they will send you the replacement first, then collect the broken one. Or you can pay €29(?) if you don't have AppleCare.

Yeah the problem is I don't want to wait 10 days for the AppleCare. Its annoying as this is the second one that isn't right. I want to do it in person. Looks like a trip to Belfast :(

Normally seems to take a week or less, not 10 days, but Christmas will bugger that up as well as the snow....:(

Been through it twice with an iPhone 4. I'm on my third and soon to be my fourth. Thats the problem. If I send it, even this Monday, I'd probably be lucky to have it by January.

+1 here, if it is under warranty you have to use Applecare. If not you can go to someone like Mactivate. Authorized repair centres aren't allowed to warranty work direct to consumer.
Mactivate now offer Screen and Battery replacements on beyond warranty repairs on iPhone 2G, 3g and 3GS.

Please note that if your iPhone is still covered under warranty, you must go through Apple for warranty repairs. You can check Warranty Status here https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do. If you need to contact Apple for a warranty repair call this number Tel: 1850 946191. Please Note: Apple Warranty does not cover Customer Abuse / Accidental.

Whats wrong that there are so many problems with it? Good luck with getting to Belfast the way the weather is going

I'll probably head up in the New Year.

Basically I'm not happy with the quality of the phone. I've had three so far and the serials were all different except the first and current one, the both have A4S as the final serial numbers.

The problem is the home button. It moves WAY too much in the lateral directions. It also clicks as it does so. My brothers iTouch and my iPhone 1G are rock solid, don't move at all in the compass point directions.

My brother also got a repaired iPhone and the same problem with the same final serial number. His previous one was perfect but a different ending of the serial. Its widely reported on MacRumours etc.

Basically my bottom line is I've paid €600 for this phone and I want it to be perfect. There is no reason that pretty much the only button on the phone should move so much when a €150 iTouch is perfect.

There is a place along the quays down beside James Joyce house that is an apple repair centre. No idea if they deal with iPhones though.

Sorry to drag up a bit of an old thread, just have a question about getting my iPhone 4 replaced. My home button has gone a bit dodgy, I phoned apple about it and they are willing to replace it. Im just wondering does anyone know: the new iPhone I get sent out, will it be a new or a refurb?? ( I asked the apple guy on the phone and he wasnt sure)

    thanks!

It should be a refurbed one, which is basically like a brand new phone. Just sync it up with itunes again and it'll have all your apps contacts and all that stuff

Its more than likely going to be a refurb. But it could be new. Theres no way to tell the difference. Refurb means a new shell and new battery. Also goes under some quality assurance. Basically is "as new"

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I've heard something like that about their refurbs. Doesn't really bother me, once it looks unused and the home button works I'll be happy. Have to wait till next week when I'm paid to get the replacement though, im gonna use the advanced replacement service and they put a hold on your card for the new phones value (€580 for 32gb) until they receive my faulty handset. Haven't got that sorta money right now :)

It'll be wrapped as new with film in place. I've got two iPhone 4's replaced and you cannot tell the difference from new. In fact when I got the first replaced in Apple Belfast, the staff even arn't told (or can tell) which replacement units are new vs refurb.

Actually that's another thing I was thinking, if I went up to the befast apple store would they be opening 'brand new' box and giving me that phone or is there different replacement stock?

No, its replacement stock. Its a phone in a foam black box. Exact same you'll get from Apple Care. To be honest, if you want a replacement quickly, just drive up. You'd be up and back in tops 5 hours. Just book an appointment online.

Your welcome. On the accessories side of things, its not cheap in Apple. If anything they are more expensive. The free case I got for the iPhone 4 was £24.95 (Yeap, pounds!) I wouldn't recommend Apple stores for picking up accessories.
