Did you pay them? They're acting the b******s for charging that kind of money if you ask me. They'll Google the answer just like everyone else.

Download spybot search and destroy, do an update, do a full scan and delete errors, then install something like AVG Free or Avira anti virus and again do an update and system scan, un-install all other anti-virus/spyware software, let us know how you get on.

I was just doing a bit of Googling on this and unfortunately most of the so-called removal instructions are in fact just PC Tools affiliates trying to earn commision by getting you to download the Spyware Doctor product from PC Tools.

There are however genuine-looking and 2 almost identical instructions here and here which look like they might work so if you're still infected then try either of them and report back. The first one has extra instructions about the 'hosts' file so I'd try that one see how you get on.

Not net savy Hubbie + 6 cans of guiness + Search for Ice Road Truckers India = Internet Antivirus and a computer that did not work at all!! Couldn't get onto net until I disabled using a proxy server.

I just read your post and downloaded the malware programme as found at the first 'here' link. It worked a treat thanks for sharing.. although the hubbie had just said he would buy me a new lap top for xmas when i got it fixed!! oh what a shame!! :)

I've been using it for years, never had a problem with it, I've used it for Nixers too and had no complaints.

I've got this Antivirus 2011 popping up every 10 minutes but I'm not tech savvy and would need a bit of time to follow the instructions Does anyone know can it do any damage if you don't actually buy the fake malware removal software? Like, should I get down to removing it asap?

If you have any viruses on your computer then you should do something about it as there are almost certainly others that aren't advertising themselves.

Just have a go at removing it using the instructions here

If you're stuck or uncertain at any stage in the instructions then report back. What antivirus software is on your machine and is it up-to-date?

i followed the instructions from your first link last night and i seem to be cured :D i downloaded malwarebytes anti walware and it detected over 800 viruses and trogans  i also downloaded avast antivirus for extra protection:) since last night i haven't gotten any dialog boxes from Internet Antivirus 2011 telling me im infected so thats great . i have noticed however that sometimes still when im browsing im redirected to advertising websites .oh and also when i first start up my computer i get a message saying my pc tools tray has stopped working - whatever that is  but im so so so happy that my computer is safe again . i am forever thankful bhickey and to everyone else that helped :D

Good to hear that you're making progress but it sounds like you're not totally cured yet. Can you have a look at this post and follow the instructions?

Thanks, I just did that and it has removed AV 2011. The antivirus software I have is McAfee. It's what came with the laptop - Samsung R730 - when I bought it a couple of months ago. I'm not sure if that's enough.

If I were you I'd remove McAfee and install MSE.

Depending on the version of Windows :

    Start > Control Panel >

    Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP

    or

Programs and Features (Vista & Windows 7)

This'll list all the programs installed on the computer. Remove anything to do with McAfee. Also remove anything else that you're sure you don't need .

Unfortunately, I'm having a similar problem to aa_ and wondering if you guys could help, as I am getting this error

"Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this website may harm your computer"
as well as a Windows Security Alert however, Firefox seems to operate as normal.

Presently, using AVG Free however, when I attempt to run the new AVG version, it states that application cannot be executed as file .exe is infected.

Also, when I attempt to Add or Remove programs in the control panel the programs disappear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm surprised to see this recomended. I've always been of the opinion that you need a non microsoft program to protect your microsoft programs. Is it realy good? I've been using avg and spybot for years. I always insist that trial antivirus is removed before I purchase a computer.

I don't understand why you'd think that. One could argue the exact opposite - that maybe Microsoft should know better than anyone how to potect Miccrosoft programs? Anyway, I think that when in doubt, the best thing to go with is what other people recommend. So if you want free antivirus software then try MSE or Avast and if you want to pay then try Eset.

It sounds like you've got some sort of infection alright. For now, have a look here, work your way through the instructions in sequence and report back later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,921 ✭✭✭2 stroke

I don't mean to start an argument here, but I would have thought that if microsoft knew how to protect their products they wouldn't leave them so vulnerable in the first place.
I find avg + spybot serves me well, I occasionaly use adaware and avast, on another computer, to scan drives.
