    Hi
My mate went to AIB Bank today with over £400 pounds sterling and ask the casher to put those into his own personal bank account...

The Casher check the £ into € and its around €600 BUT then when he got home and check online banking and saw that the bank made mistake as its an EXTRA €1,000 mean he got €1,600 and it should be €600

So what will happen next? the bank will see an error in the next few days and take back the €1,000? or nothing will happen?

The staff will "cash up" at the end of the day.

This will be picked up on and corrected. Your friend will probably get a call from the manager over this to explain what happened and apologize.

Say the mistake wasn't picked up on and your friend closed the account today.

If AIB spotted the error, does anyone know how banks treat this event when trying to recover the cash?!

historically they would chase the customer, even make the clerk who made the error call to the customer. however in this day and age i would be inclined to scarper with the dosh. The inclination would increase in proportion to the size of the error.

    happy Christmas all

Wasn't there a woman recently on Matt Cooper who was a bank manager (she didn't give her name) but she said that anything under 5k they will not follow up with legal resources as it is too expensive. At the same time it depends on your morals ;)

When it comes to a bank in this country, morals go out the window! :p

Fairly sure i'm contributing to NAMA via tax.

Mistakes happen but if it was me I would feel guilty about getting some staff member on the counter into trouble

    Hi
My Mate got a letter about a week later to say "sorry for the mix up" with the new receipt and took back the €1,000 off the account!

Lodge another few €1000, then if they take out €1000, say they took one of your €1000s. Make them identify which €1000 is theirs.

The Branch probably killed the poor teller who made the mistake, yet they gave bonuses to the people who loaned wreck-lessly over the years.
