    hey all,

i posted this in cork city forum but here was suggested instead,

my water went off last night, it seems to be just after i was trying to fix our gas heating, i opened a tap then opened up a small black tap to increase the pressure in the boiler, the heating is working again but the cold tap in the kitchen is off, and the toilet cisterns wont refill,

the other taps in the bathroom seem fine, i have also found out my neighbours water is fine, and it survived the freezing last week,

any ideas as to what it may be??

Difficult to say. Can you post a pic of the valves that you were turning?

    hey,
i have photos taken but i cant figure out how to upload them,
the tap that i opened first is a small black piece of plastic about an inch long, and the second tap was like you would see outside, way bigger than the first one and metal, i could see the pressure on the gauge go from 0 up to just over 1 bar,
the heating is still working away, and to add to the mystery the downstairs cistern fills slowly, and the upstairs one wont fill at all,
there was water for a shower this evening but i think its running out:(

The downstairs toilet is filling from the mains probably. The tank in the attic is not filling because there is not enough pressure to get the water upstairs.

I'd refill the loo a few times to see if the moving water unfreezes the pipes, but in reality yo have probably partly turned off your mains.

Is your house newish? Where were these taps located?

thank you for the replies, i have attached a picture of the taps i was at,
it does seem like somthing to do with pressure, the house is a duplex, these taps are beside the boiler in the hot press, which is on our ground floor, but is actually on the first floor, im not sure if there is a tank in the attic,
the tap i was at it to the right of the pic about halfway up the picture, and the black tap at the bottom of the picture just above the barcode on the piece of timber,

    an update on this,

water is back, it was my own fault, i accidently turned the mains water off, i assumed the tap for the mains was under the sink, but it is in the hotpress:o
the tank is so big that the water lasted nearly 2 days before it emptied,
i told the plumber i wont go messing with it again:o

    thank you for replies,
