You sould get a decent sat-nav for this price.

Halfords have good deals on tom-toms and garmins at the moment.

I have a garmin that I only paid €120 for at the end of 2008 which had all of europe installed and its been perfect.

Edit - here is one at halfords

Either DID or Harvey Norman had what looked like a Garmin 255 for either 89 or 99 in the local rag last night.

255 has been discontinued now, but can still be updated (even to work with LOC8 codes), has full European Mapping.

Basic model still in production is either a 1210 or 1240 now (can't remember which is cheaper).

If you are anywhere near Bray, give JDM a call on 01 20 50 500 - they are the importers for Garmin in Ireland so should be able to give you a better price than shops.

Don't have any experience with Tom Tom.

I'd put the money towards a decent phone, new nokia or iphone with the integrated GPS, I have a Nokia E52 and it works great. Saw one on adverts for €100 earlier (the iphone will set you back a fair whack more)

    +1

Any Nokia smartphone will come with free satnav and free map updates worldwide forever. And Nokia owns Navteq, which is the only company with complete maps of Ireland

I bought a second hand Nokia smartphone for €100 a year ago and the satnav (OVI maps) works very well

Tomtom has incomplete maps and never will have complete maps. Be warned!

I have a two-year old Garmin and I recently paid to download updated maps. It was a complete waste of money, their maps are out-of-date and don't include parts of the new motorways and other roads that have been open for a year or two.

I'm using google mpss navigation on my htc, has all new estates and roads.
Audio cuts in on ad2p on my stereo by Bluetooth and it uses street view to show you where you're going to.

Way better than the defunct garmin I also keep just in case.
